Natalie's POV

I lock my car walking slowly up the pathway to my front door. My hands begin to tremble, I glance up seeing the light on in the downstairs window indicating he's awake. An involuntary tear fell from my eye. I've got no where else to go. This is it. This is meant to be my home.

I quietly slide through the front door and ease it shut. I creep through the hallway, my heart racing. I could hear my own heart beat drumming in my ears cutting out the deathly silence. I almost reached the worn down stairs when a glass bottle comes flying towards my head. I attempt to dodge it but it catches my cheek and smashes on the damp wall behind me. This was a big mistake.

I reach my shaking hand up to my cheek only to see the colour red printed onto my cold fingers. I release a shaky breath and try to continue my way upstairs when I'm suddenly grabbed from the back of my T-shirt and chucked to the floor, making me slide part way down the hall. I glance up to this sinister man in front of me. His eyes are emotionless as he spits at me "you are testing my patience. I do so much for you and how do you repay me?" He locks his hands around my neck squeezing tight. My eyes widen in shock, my whole body going limp from fear. He leans in closer to my face forcing me to look him in his dark cold eyes. "By acting like a stupid brat! Get out of my sight before I beat the shit out of you. Again." He growls, releasing my neck making me collapse back to the floor gasping for air and ensuring he takes another kick at my stomach. "MOVE!" He yells with so much force and anger. I freeze in my spot for a split second too terrified to even move.

I then scramble up off the floor clinging to my stomach and burning throat in agony and run back out of the front door. I don't know where I'm going. Anywhere is better than here. I glance back before reaching my car and see my dad stood in the doorway, smiling. He had a new bottle of beer in his hand and downed it like it was water. My eyes now full of tears threatening to over flow any second, I got into my car and drove off.

Natalie's POV

I pulled up into a empty dark car park. It's like he doesn't even care. I never did anything wrong to him, I've only ever tried to please him and help him. I don't understand why he has to hurt me so much, I guess I'm his only release of anger and pain. I feel so trapped. So freakin alone.

I was so deep in thought I hadn't even realised the tears flowing down my cheeks and a car that had pulled up next to me. I glance to my left and see the mystery guy from the principle's office. Kovalsky. His dark green eyes met mine suddenly, making my breath hitch in my throat and my heart rate increase. His eyebrows furrowed as his eyes trailed down to my tear stained cheeks. He knocked on my car window. I felt so alone in this moment I would've accepted anyone's company. I opened my window and was met again by his intense gaze.

"Um..hi" I shyly say as my eyes awkwardly glance to the floor. I've never been good at expressing my feelings or being seen as vulnerable. "What's wrong?" His eyes laced with sympathy. Probably a way of just trying to get into my pants. I roll my eyes wipe my cheeks and force a smile. "I'm fine, just a... complicated night" my forced smile faded towards the end. "Come with me." He demands  with a slight hint of aggression. With a confused expression I say "what? Why should I? I don't even know your name." He looked at me as a smirk formed onto his face. "I'm Cole. Cole Kovalsky and you're Natalie Haywood, who the whole school is talking about." He winked at me and leaned more into my car. "Plus I can make you smile for real for once. Come on trust me! I hate seeing you so sad." What does he mean the whole school is talking about me? Taken aback by his confidence, I gave in to my curiosity and stepped out of my car.

A satisfied smile landed on Cole's face. "I'm pretty sure there's a small diner near here that do great milkshakes." A small smile fights to reach my lips. "What if I hate milkshakes?" I say raising my eyebrows at him. He lightly laughs showing up his cute dimple. "Everyone loves milkshakes." He raises his eyebrows too challenging me. "Fine." I sigh and climb into the passenger side of his car.
