WHAT IS YOUR NAME AND WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

my non-pen name is alison! i use rose beton to hide my true name (mostly because i'm not a fan of it). anyway, the name alison means noble or exalted, and it is a norman french diminutive of aalis, or alice. my father heard the song alison by elvis costello on the radio while driving home from work, and decided that they were going to name me that name. my original name was to be jelena, but my mother said no.

i'm from the state of michigan in the U.S.

FAVORITE FOOD?

hard decision between sushi, chinese, & mexican!!

FAVORITE TYPE OF OUTFIT?

i'm a fall shawl kinda girl, and the same goes for high waisted jeans. my personal aesthetic is 80s/90s rocker chick.

HOW DO YOU CELEBRATE RELIGOUS CELEBRATIONS WITH FAMILY?

my mom and i aren't overly religious, but when certain religious holidays come up, such as christmas or easter, we do celebrate them but it's definitely more casual!

HOW DO YOU CELEBRATE BIRTHDAYS OR WEDDINGS?

mainly for birthdays, we'll have a small gathering made up of family and friends, or if we're working on out birthdays (which happens alot), we'll just have cake and ice cream and sing happy birthday on our days off. for weddings, we take time off work and go party. now that i'm twenty-one, i can finally drink at the bar!!!

FAVORITE SONG FROM YOUR CULTURE?

literally any song by selena! i'm mexican and polish, but i rarely associate myself with polish traditions. if i could pick one major song from selena's discography, i'd probably go with no me queda mas!

HOW MANY LANGUAGES CAN YOU SPEAK?

i speak english, but i took about three and a half years of spanish. i can speak it very mildly,  but give me an entire book in the language and i'll be able to read EVERY word.

DREAM WEDDING?

perferably when i'm either very financially stable in my life, or when i'm 26+. i would want something like a literature style of wedding. i'm a huge book lover, and i want my wedding connected to books that i've either read or want to read. or just classics, like the secret garden, to kill a mockingbird, and anne of green gables.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR CULTURE?

like i mentioned before, i don't really associate myself with the polish side of me, even though my last name is completely polish. but my favorite thing about mexican culture is hard to say. i love pretty much everything: the mythology, the food, the family dynamic. there are a few things that are very questionable and problematic in the culture, as there are similar things in other cultures as well. i think the reason i grasp onto it so much, is because i was robbed of it when i was growing up. i know for sure that my kids aren't going to be robbed of it.
