Chapter 2 - The Long Drive
Before I knew it, I was in their Dodge Caravan.
Jared was in the front driving, watching my every move.
"So how do you like Mo - I mean Mrs. Ericson as a teacher?" Courtney asked.
"She's nice" I was able blurt out.
Jared was looking at me like I was some crazed kidnapper in the car!
I struggled to keep at my seat. I couldn't concentrate on what Courtney was saying. It was as if her lips moved so swiftly, nothing came out. That or I could concentrate because "someone" was giving me dirty looks.
After a bit, she stopped talking and realized I hadn't heard a word she said.
I know, I know. It must've seemed disrespectful but Jared was just pissing me off.
I starred out the window and sighed.
My life was perfect, around an hour ago.
I wondered where my mom thought I was.
I remembered telling her I'd be late. Late like 4:00.
I strained my head around Courtney.
It was 4:30.
Just perfect. I'm so grounded.
Just then Courtney tapped my shoulder.
"Huh?" I turned around snapping back to reality.
"I called your mom, I told her that you would be late a little longer than 4 and she said she's fine with it okay?" Mrs. Ericson was in the front seat. She had to strain her head to talk to me. "Oh and I told her you were still working on the poster...she doesn't know you're here....Is that okay?" Mrs. Ericson bit her lip.
"Yeah" I didn't really care. Mrs. Ericson, Courtney, Jared and Joseph all seemed like really cool people. Not the kinds that kid nap you.
But maybe, Jared was the kind when HE KEPT STARRING AT YOU!
He made himself seem like a stalker.
It was already bad enough that I was the little kid in the room- I mean car. I was already, a lot intimidated by everyone else, he wasn't really helping.
After, what seemed like ages, Jared pulled over to a stop.
"Finally," I heard Joseph whisper and stretch "Next time I'm driving"
Courtney laughed.
Jared didn't respond. He muttered something under his breath and left.
I got up and followed Courtney out.
