About a week later.
Wednesday.
No one's P.O.V.
Namjoon had tried talking to Shadow several times. But, every time, she'd turn up her music and walk away.
Namjoon noticed how Shadow never came to lunch. One day, he followed her and saw that she went to the roof. So, the next day during lunch, he bought his food and then followed her up onto the roof. When Namjoon got on the roof, Shadow was sitting down. She had her head leaned back against the brick wall that lined the roof and her eyes close. Her music was blasting loudly. Namjoon went over and sat next to her, then sat down his tray of food in front of him and began eating.
"Annyeong, my name is Kim Namjoon. I only know you as 'Shadow'. So, would you like some of my food? I don't want a pretty girl like you to go hungry." Namjoon said. Then he realized she didn't even hear a single word of what he just said. He sighed and moved to sit right in front of her. Namjoon heard English music blasting through Shadow's headphones and smiled. He reached up and pulled her headphones out of her ears, then placed them gently in her lap.
"Do you know 'Hello'?" Namjoon asked in fluant English. Shadow nodded her head. She turned to face the other way because she wasn't used to people talking to her. "Do you know 'Annyeonghaseyo'?" He asked in Korean. Again, she nodded her head. "Then why don't you speak to me?" Shadow looked back at the boy in front of her and sighed.
"Go away."
She spoke. Shadow spoke. For the first time in three years, the girl spoke. Kim Namjoon was the first person she had spoken to in three years. The first person she had spoken to at that school. Ever.
"Y-You spoke! You spoke to me! Oh my god. Wait, can you say something again? I want to hear your voice." Namjoon said. His heart raced and his eyes were wide. Namjoon knew that she hadn't spoken to anyone at that school, so he also knew that he was the first person she spoke to at that school.
Shadow shook her head no, then picked up her headphones and put them back in.
"NO! Take those out! Please!" Namjoon begged. He took out her headphones again and she glared at him. "Just-Just listen to me. You don't have to talk, just listen. That's all I ask. Please?" Namjoon asked. Shadow nodded her head and hit pause on her music. "My name is Kim Namjoon. Who are you?"
Shadow shook her head no.
"Oh right. No talking. Sorry. Here!" Namjoon said, then pulled out his phone and unlocked it, going to notes and handing it to the silent girl. "Type what you want to say. For now, I can wait to hear your voice."
Shadow typed her name on the phone and a little about herself. Then she showed Namjoon the phone screen.
My name is Abby. I'm 16. I don't like people. I have no friends. Get the fuck away from me before I throw you off this roof.
Namjoon chukled and then got comfortable. "You're funny. Now, how are you?" Namjoon asked. Shadow rolled her eyes, then started typing again.
I'm fine. You?
"I'm good. So, what do you do up here every lunch period?"
Sleep, listen to music. And one other thing but you'll hate me if I tell you.
"No I won't. Tell me."
Fine. I come up here and smoke. It calms my nerves and it relieves my stress. Happy, dimples?
"You smoke? Huh, interesting. And, dimples?" Namjoon asked. He picked up his sandwich and took a bite.
Yes. Dimples because of your smile. I like your smile.
"Thank you. I'm sure I'd like your smile too. But, I haven't seen it yet." Namjoon said. He smiled at the girl sitting in front of him. Abby bit her lip to stop herself from smiling. She hadn't smiled in so long but something about this boy made her want to smile.
No, I don't smile, so good luck. Why are you up here?
"Because, I wanted to talk to you. Also because I like the fresh air and you're very pretty to look at." Namjoon said. He slapped a hand over his mouth and gasped. "I-I didn't mean to say that out loud." Abby quickly pulled Namjoon's phone back and began typing. She held the phone out again with a shaky hand.
You think I'm pretty?
"Y-Yes."
Oh... thank you. I need to get to my next class. Here's my number: ***-****
"Thanks! I'll see you up here tomorrow?" Namjoon asked. Abby handed Namjoon back his phone and stood up. She nodded her head and then turned away.
"Goodbye, Namjoon." She said, then left the roof to go to her next class.
After fanboying over the messages Shadow wrote, and fanboying over her voice, Namjoon finished his food and then went to his next class.
