Joseph dreamed about flying on a plane. He was sitting beside the isle on the right side to where he could barely see could barely see the wing. He looked to his right and saw his wife and surprisingly Officer Lambert on the next two seats, Lambert having the window seat.
They were all in uniform too, which was quite unusual, even though it was a dream, he didn't think of that at the time. Danasha looked at him and made that infamous smile that he loved. "You okay, baby? Need some water?"
"No," he answered, "I'm perfectly fine . . . Are we flying?" He then asked.
"Yes, sweetheart, we're flying. We're all on vacation, remember?"
Joseph looked to the left of him and saw his mom in the other seat across from him, along with his dad and strangely enough a kid in a yellow shirt. All in order.
"I don't . . . remember," he said slowly. Everything felt like it was slow motion, no one else was at any other seats.
"Joseph," Danasha said slowly also. He turned and looked at her, she placed a hand on his shoulder. "Look out."
Suddenly the plane shook, a boom was heard and red filled the windows. The side exploded, wind flapping at his face as a sound of howling metal tearing itself apart. The seats came out of place and Lambert and Danasha were flying out the side. Joseph grabbed her hand as Lambert flew out, clinging onto her like his life depended on it. No voices were heard, though it sounded like a child was screaming bloody murder.
"I've got you!" Joseph yelled, desperate to not let her go.
Danasha looked at him in the eyes, "It'll be all over soon," she said, still giving him her smile.
Suddenly she flew out the side, leaving Joseph speechless as his hand was still outstretched. Thinking that she'll fly back in somehow. It sounded like a fire alarm was blaring in his ear, wait, that doesn't sound right.
He gripped the seat as the window was still howling, more explosions was happening and screaming was definitely heard. And suddenly the plane burst into flames, liking at his clothes and face. All he did was scream but felt no pain. He wanted it to end, wanted it to stop.
It's just a dream.
Realization came over him. Wait, It's just a dream.
It was almost like he forced himself to wake up. He woke up shivering in sweat breathing in deeply. The very first thing he noticed was darkness. Jesus Christ, why is it so damn dark?
He sat up in his bed slowly, pain pounded in his head and white spots danced in his vision. He realized that he was hooked up to an IV bag there was no heart monitor or life support system hooked up anywhere else. He looked around, noticing that he was in some sort of dark room, not your regular hospital room. He was still wearing his nightgown and nasal cannula.
"Hello?" He called out, hoping that someone was there. "Anybody there?"
Realizing that he could breathe perfectly fine, he took it off, casting it aside. The first thing he smelled was how stale everything was, like it hadn't been washed in weeks. "Hey!" He called out but still no answer.
Is anybody even here? What the hell?
That was when he thought about getting up. He grabbed the IV stand and tried to get out of bed. When he meant tried, he meant falling to the floor for his legs being so weak. He realized that the IV needles ripped off and he winced in pain, he got up, still wobbling and pressing his hand against his wound. The floor felt cold under his bare feet, trying to get used to the new environment.
