Chapter 6: The prince and the maid

"Your Royal Highness, this general is honoured to have you as his guest twice on the same day. What is the occasion for our family to be graced by your imperial presence?"

Fourth Prince Rong Yingming laughs before he says, "Bojing, you are being such an 'old man' lately..."

The Fourth Prince laughs and continues to say, "In a few days time, my eight imperial sister will be coming back for a short visit together with her husband and children. There will be a banquet..."

General Hai Bojing calmly sips on his tea before he says, "That I know... His Majesty had told me that he wanted to organize a grand banquet for Her Royal Highness as this will be her first visit after all."

He then turns his head to look at the silent figure sitting next to him. Though she is displaying her usual smiling expression, her hands seem to be somewhat tensed as her small hands are gripping tightly onto her silk handkerchief. Knowing that she is quite close to her older half brother, she must have known about the Eight Princess. She seems to be quite fidgety as well.

"Huian, you look somewhat pale... Is there anything wrong? Are you alright?"

Jia Huian turns her head to look at her mother-in-law and answers, "Mother, I am fine. It is just that Huian feels a bit tired..."

Madam Li smiles and says, "Is that so? If you are tired, you can return back to your courtyard. Chunhua, take your mistress back... Take good care of her. I will instruct one of the maidservants to send herbal soup later to replenish her energy..."

The Fourth Prince cough several times as he stares at the General who looks like he wanted to murder someone.

"Lao taitai, Bojing is one lucky man to be blessed with a gentle-mannered wife. How this prince wish that he too will be blessed..."

As he talks, he is staring at Chunhua and this bold act of his has been noticed by Jia Huian. Though she rarely goes out, she has heard rumours about the Fourth Prince.

But, as a reborn person, she does know that the Fourth Prince is, in fact, an honest and loyal man. He is in love with one of the imperial concubines but they are not fated to be together when that woman chose to enter the harem to be one of His Majesty's concubine instead of being a wife to a rather insignificant prince. Due to his rather playful nature, he is often being misunderstood by others. That he knows from her previous lifetime.

She smiles as she curtsy before them respectfully. She then gently puts her hand on top of Chunhua's hand before they gracefully walk out of the receiving hall.

After both of them are no longer in sight, General Hai Bojing smirks as he looks at the Fourth Prince who is still staring at the direction where his wife and her maidservant have gone to.

"Your Royal Highness, it seems that something or someone has caught your attention... This General hope that one will act accordingly."

Madam Li Lanying looks at her son before she looks at the Forth Prince with a worried look obviously written on her face. She prays that the one who caught his attention is her daughter-in-law's maidservant and not her daughter-in-law as that could be disastrous.

"Your Royal Highness, this old one is feeling a bit tired as well... This old one will return to her courtyard as well."

With that, Madam Li Lanying and her group of maidservants walks out from the receiving hall, leaving the Fourth Prince and the General with a few maidservants left at their service.

"Bojing... Stop showing your sour face to this prince. It is annoying to that face of yours looking like a jealous husband. Never did I thought I will see this side of you. Seems like Eldest Miss Jia is definitely not a simple one..."
