Ruhi:

I woke up super early today and now all I feel is dread as I sit in front of the laptop reloading it time and time again. I hear footsteps approaching. It has to be bhai. He places his hand on head and ruffle my hair lightly.

"Stop reloading it every second. There's still time for your results. Anyways I cane to tell you that I'll be going to the airport now to pick them. If your results arrive early which it will not just call me ok" He says and smiles at me. I breathe out loudly and get up wave at him. He chuckles and leaves the room.

'Ok Ruhi you'll stop worrying and do some walking around alright' I say to myself and start strolling through my room. I keep looking at the clock waiting for it to turn 7. Yeah that's how early I got up because its not yet 7:00 am yet. I take out the bookmark from the current book I was reading. Currently I've been drawn into the DIVERGENT TRILOGY by Veronica Roth. It's one thrilling story I must say. I continue reading from where I had left off earlier.

I look up after reading 30 odd pages and its 7:10. Oh cool! I got too engrossed in the book again. I quickly rush to my laptop and punch in my student ID and my name. There's it was in a table with all my marks typed in. At last stood my result. Looking at which I squeal loudly.

RUHI VARDHAN
RESULT- PASS
RANK- 20
PERCENTILE- 98

I plan on not calling bhai and surprising him with the news once he comes home. I run down to find maa.
"Ruhi slow down! What's wrong" Maa asks me with worry evident in her eyes. As soon as she sees the shit eating grin I have on my face she turns curious

"My result... Maa I am ranked 20!! " I scream. She has a huge grin on her face and I can also see a tiny little tear trying to escape her eyes. I hug her immediately.

"I'm so proud of you beta! Does Rahul know?" She asks me with a smile on her face. I wipe off the rogue tear from her face. Not even a tear can dare make my mom's face ugly.

"Naa I'll surprise Bhai. I still have time to make kheer." I say and quickly rummage the kitchen for the ingredients. From the corner of my eyes I can see maa inform Bhabhi of the news and she in no time comes to hugs me tightly.

"My topper! Proud of you" She says and walks out. I resume to making the kheer. Kheer has always been a thing of bhai and mine. He taught me how to make it and whenever we have to share something big we prepare this for each other. The airport is a long way from home so before him the kheer will be done.

I hear the car honk loudly indicating the arrival of bhai and the Malhotras. I quickly check on my kheer. I put on the final touches of pistachio slivers and almond slivers and cover it up. I clean my hands and and pour the kheer in bowls and pour the juices in glasses. After they all settle down in the living room I take in the juice and hand everyone their glasses except for one.
"I would prefer black coffee over the juice please. Oh and no sugar" He says. I look up at him only to be shocked with the way he carried him self. So regal just like Sanjeevini aunty.

"Umm yeah sure" I mumble but all I ever wanted to do was the grumble out a 'no.' Can't this person drink what is being served? No!  Of course not. Now this mister needs a pure black coffee with no sugar. Oh boy,  he doesn't know that I make the world's strongest black coffee that bhai usually needs four spoons of sugar in it. This guy will come to me for sugar after drinking this for sure.

I quickly brew up the coffee,  oops sorry black coffee with no sugar and pour it into a mug. I walk into the living room with the mug and hand it over to him. I give him a sardonic smile and quickly walk back into the kitchen only to come back with the kheer. Bhai eyes the tray suspiciously.

"What's so special today maa?" Sanjeevini aunty asks Maa. Making maa smile
"You'll know pretty soon sanju" Is her simple reply. I hand over the last cup if kheer to bhai and stand beside Maa.

Bhai takes a bite of the kheer and asks "Ruhi what is your rank?" Plain and simple. So much like bhai! He eyes me for a second

"20" I have that grin back on my face. Before bhai could react Raj comes running to me and hugs me tight.

"Di!!! Wow! I love you yaar. You always score the best marks" He says and quickly gets off me.

"Don't you worry. You'll score higher marks than me chote"

"I wish di" He replies and settles down in between the two younger Malhotras. Awe I love this guy so much. He's the cutest.

"I'm so proud of you sister!!  Now the Americans can't resist calling you there" He says and hugs me thight patting my head with one of his hands and rubbing my back with another. I smile at this and feel a tiny tear escape my eyes.

Suddenly I hear an unpleasing sound come from one of the Malhotra brothers. I automatically know who it is and I try not to smirk because I knew this would happen. Bhai looks at me pointedly and I just shrug my shoulders. He shakes his head takes his seat.

"Kya hua Bhai? Coffee is not good?" The younger looking brother asked Mr. Black coffee - no sugar. He looks at his brother and says nothing. Instead gulps down the coffee like it's alcohol. I shudder thinking of the bitter liquid he had gulped down like.

"Ruhi makes the best coffee, only the strongest" Maa tells the younger brother.

"By the way, Ruhi meet Sanjeevini and Kishore." I nod at them politely and smile.

"Congratulations dear" They both say in unison. I quietly mumble a thank you.

Maa continues "and Aryaman, the younger badmash and lastly the majors badmash Abhimanyu" The guy who was aryaman waves politely and I return the gesture and smile. The elder one though just holds his gaze on me. Must have been the coffee which might have taken its toll. I mentally laugh. "It's nice meeting you all" I say and retire back to the kitchen. The cook is currently cooking us breakfast but I prefer cooking my own. Just the usual eggs and actually I'm in a mood for assorted beans today. What can I say, I'm spoilt over food. Bhai cooks for me once in a while and I get addicted to it. I cook up my dish quickly and making my self a cup if coffee.

"I could use one cup of coffee too. Make sure it's less strong this time and don't mind adding a cube of sugar" I hear a gruff voice from behind me. I hadn't heard his voice till now and to be honest it was kind of intimidating.

"Didn't you just have coffee like right now?" I ask him pouring the hot coffee into my cup quickly frothing it up.

"I would never in my dreams call that as coffee. It was a pretty bad cup of bitter molasses" He exaggerates. I roll my eyes at him and pour a glass for him as well.

"You're exaggerating. Anyways try this out,  you'll get hooked on to it and rather drink this than having your usual black coffee" I say handing him a mug of steaming hot frothed coffee. He eyes me Sceptically. Nonetheless he drinks it and automatically his facial feature changes into a smile.

"Now you my friend will make coffee for me everyday. This is gold man" He says and walks out if the kitchen. What does he think I am?  His personal coffee maker? And his heavy accent added to the final effect on his 'oh so subtle' order. I glare at him and resume my eating.
