About 10 years later...

"Draco, you will get the form of acceptance any day now! Then we can get you ready for your attendance at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry any time now! You can honour our family by being in the pure house of Slytherin!" my father said cheerily. He insisted on my attending Hogwarts and being in Slytherin, but to be honest I didn't mind that much.

"Father, you know I'm not that worried about what house I'm in. Just getting into Hogwarts will be enough for me."

"Why, nonsense, son! It would be disgraceful enough if you were in Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw, let alone Gryffindor! And to not get into Hogwarts? It would be an utter outrage.

But you, my boy, will make me proud. And not just me. All my family and your mother's as well.

Well, most of your mother's," he added darkly. I had heard this story before, but I was interested, so I asked The Question:

"What do you mean, most of them?"

"You know well what I mean, Dra-

AN OWL!"

My father was like this whenever an owl arrived. He would jump up, convinced it was my Hogwarts acceptance letter.

It hadn't been, not yet, anyway.

As soon as my father opened the letter, he jumped up and down excitedly.

"THIS IS IT!

'Dear Draco Malfoy,

We are proud to accept you into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Please find enclosed your list of books that you will require for this year.'

YOU MADE IT, DRACO, MY BOY!"

It was hard not to get caught up in Father's enthusiasm.

My mother walked into the room. "Lucius? What is all the shouting for -" Then she saw the letter in Father's hand.

"Oh, Draco. I'm so proud of you! You made it!

Now all you have to do is get into Slytherin!"

I rolled my eyes.

"Narcissa, we had best get the house-elf to get Draco his books.

HOUSE-ELF!"

Crack!

A second later, Dobby, our house-elf, appeared on the ground in front of us, bowing and scraping-quite unnecessarily, really.

"Dobby is at your service, sirs and mistress. What do you require from Dobby?"

"Get the books on this list for Draco."

Father thrust the list at Dobby.

"As the master wishes. Dobby will bring back schoolbooks for Draco."

And with that, the miserable little creature, with a Crack!, left to do his job.
