Too lovely a night

Up in the trees that speared the sky
Rested a crow with a glint in his eye.
He looked at the moon and said with a sigh,
"This is too lovely a moon for a hanging tonight."

Below him the rope and the body did swing.
While the crickets and bats gathered to sing.
The crow still convinced the night too beautiful for justice.
Flew from his branch and into the nightwinds.
