Murderer of Hundreds

Dry, dead leaves cracked and crumpled as I rushed. Blood flowed down my arms, face, chest, and stomach. Tears streamed down from my cursed eyes.
I killed him, I thought desperately as I rushed through the woods, I killed another one, another innocent being.
My heart ached with pain, I knew I was a monster. A monster who killed anyone and everyone I set my cursed eyes upon. I had killed animals and humans alike, hundreds of them, yet I still felt this aching pain, every single time I took one of their lives. But yet, I couldn't make it stop, I couldn't stop assassinating innocents. That's what makes me a monster.
I'm a murderer. I am someone who is to be feared. Whether I want to be, or not.

I set my back against the dark, damp wall uneasily. I was exhausted. I had not prepared for them, the Greek bounty hunters. I hadn't expected them to come that fast. Panting, I recounted what had happened.

Not even a day ago, I sat undisturbed by flowing stream of water. Trees, grass, flowers, bushes, and herbs surrounded the area where I sat, an ideal area for hunting food.
I dipped my scaly left hand into the cold, yet soothing water. It had been nearly two days since I had seen a drop of water. Naturally, I was dehydrated and desperate for the chilly liquid.
Slowly, and carful to make as little noise as possible, I dipped my right hand into the water with my left. I cupped my hands together and brang them up to my chapped lips. The water had a soothing effect on my throat, and made me feel much more alert and energetic.
I continued to drink the unpurified water for a few more minutes, savoring every drop of it. After all, who knows when the next time I'll be able to drink water is.
Slowly, but steadily, I got up. It was kinda difficult, considering the lower half of my body is a snake. But, I managed.
Now that I could think clearly, I decided to search for food. Which, fortunately, was easy. After all, the stream gave plants and herbs plenty of water to absorb to grow.
I slithered over to a near by tree, which had a plentiful supply of plants surrounding it. As I started to bend town to pick up the herbs, I froze up. Was it just my imagination or did a bush a couple of inches away rustle?
Cautiously, I rose to my full high, which happened to be nearly seven feet.
"Hello," I said said confidently, despite being nauseous from fear, "Is anyone there-"
A wooden arrow whizzed past my head. I wanted to run. I had to run. Except, I was frozen from fear.
My fear turned into immediate shock. Another arrow had pierced my arm. And once again, an arrow had fired, but this time from a different area.
It grazed my ribcage and only one thought occupied my mind, Run!
I snapped out of my fear and shock due to the pain coming from my arm. I pulled the arrow out and slithered away as fast as I could.
"It's her!" A Greek soldier had jumped out of a bush. How had I not have noticed him before? "Kill her! Kill that monster!"
That's when it all went wrong. Arrows started to fly from different directions. I felt the pain stabbing me everywhere. My mind told me to run, but my reflexes told me to turn around. That's what I did, I murdered him.
I turned around and looked him right in the eye(accidentally). He immediately stopped moving, it was as if he had been so shocked he couldn't think. Slowly, his body turned into a dark gray stone. The other hunters cried out in protest, but it was too late to save him.
I took my chance, I retreated far away. Far away from a place that will haunt me forever.

I carefully searched the cave, ever since the Greek hunters had attacked me, I had been extra cautious. The cave was dark, hard to find, and confusing. It wasn't the best hideout, but it would have to do.
It was painful to move, but I had endured it, I knew it wasn't the worst pain, that was yet to come.
I'm not gonna die, I thought to myself, the gods wouldn't let me die this easily.
I knew that for a fact, the gods love to see people in pain, human, or not. They would make everyone live a miserable, insufferable, life if the Fates were to allow it.
I put those thoughts out of my mind, for now. I knew I should stop the blood the coming from the wounds.
Careful not to increase the pain, I laid down the sack I had been carrying on my back. Even a small action like this had caused my vision to blur, and dark circles danced in my eyes.
I stood still for a minute, trying to recover from the sudden feeling of having to vomit. Eventually, I was able to sit down.
The pain from sitting down was a lot more painful than tacking off the sack.
I cried out, dizzy from the pain. The upper half of my body was burning with pain, and I felt like I could never move again.
It felt as though my lungs were collapsing, I was so out of breath. Not to mention the fact that I was practically coughing my internal organs out.
For hours, I continued to sob hideously. I was in extreme pain, I had no food or water, and nothing to heal my cuts.
I didn't even bother to look up, or acknowledge the fact that there was footsteps coming from outside the cave, hours after my pity party.
Maybe it would be for the better, I thought helplessly, If I were to die, right here right now. I could save hundreds of lives if I were to die. But would I have the courage to die?
Suddenly, as if my prayers had been answered, a single silhouette appeared. It looked as if a kopis was cradled in their hands.
Though, for some strange reason, I felt reassured, secure even, when I heard a comforting, yet uncertain voice call out in the dark.
"Hello?" The soft, delicate voice echoed throughout the cave.
Standing at the entrance was a tall girl. Short, rich black hair curled around her neck and chin. Her skin looked pale and strange in the moonlight. She wore a long, silky white dress.
She was astoundingly beautiful. And for some reason, she didn't freeze and turn into stone when I looked her in the eyes.
Then, I noticed why. Her eyes were glassy and milk white.
     She was blind.
