Awsten jolted awake at a sudden sharp knock at the door, nearly falling off the couch where he had fallen asleep on. He had woken up bright and early because he had a special delivery today and he was ecstatic to receive it. He figured he'd nap while he waited after eating some leftover pizza from last night for breakfast. He quickly rolled off the couch and ran towards the door to look through the peep hole.
Sure enough, there it was.
He waited until he saw the delivery truck pull away before he eagerly unlocked the door and and swung it open. Due to the force in which he swung the door open, the door hit his barefoot toe making him yelp out in pain. No matter how much that hurt, he thought, nothing was gonna ruin his moment. He put his pain aside and limped towards the rather large package awaiting him. This is it. After months of waiting, here it was. Picking it up, he brought it inside suppressing a groan over the issue on his foot. Placing it on his living room table, he ran to the kitchen for a knife. He felt butterflies flutter in his stomach while the shark knife split open the tough packaging tape. He carefully set aside the knife and proceeded to slowly open the box. His eyes brighten when he spotted the lilac and blue tones showing through the bubble wrap. Undoing the wrap, his breath hitched at the sight. It was beautiful, it was magnificent, it was his. Weeks of creating and perfecting its design and then waiting for months for someone to make it become a reality felt incredible. He wasted no time taking it out the box and slipping it on.
He made his way into the bedroom where he had a full length mirror. His legs shook in excitement nearly causing him to trip over his feet. He shut his eyes right before reaching the mirror while biting his lip. Slowly opening his eyes, his eyes met with his reflection.
Tears welled up in his eyes as he cracked a smile. It was PERFECT.
It was just as he'd imagined it to be except, even better! "Holy shit..", Awsten thought. That was him. That was him in this suit. He couldn't be any more prouder to be standing right where he was seeing himself look the way he was looking. He couldn't wait to go out and wear it. This was who he was and he wanted to show it off.
No one knew about this except for the people he's met through his community at conventions and meet ups. If any of the guys would find out, they'd judge him for sure. He was so close to telling Geoff about it until he heard him make a joke about his people which made Awsten cower. Otto seemed to be an animal person so maybe, just maybe, he'd be easier to talk to.
Awsten wasn't ashamed, why would he be? Some people have hobbies. Some are just misunderstood. This was his way of being someone else. Someone who he couldn't be when he was Awsten Knight, lead vocalist of Waterparks. This was Awsten. He likes being in the band and all of the attention that comes along with it, however, he also likes to create his own world where he has his own headspace he can control. The furry community allows that. It used to be a joke, it really was. He used to see it on twitter a lot.

One day, he decided it wouldn't be such a bad idea to try it out. It looked fun and interesting and he liked those kind of things. He had first started with a pre made fur suit he found online, but then he discovered OCs, original characters. He was creative he thought he could give it a try. After weeks of planning and sketching, he made a draft. He found a person online who specialized in making dreams like his become a reality, so he paid the price. It was expensive, but it was worth it.
He was happy. For once, his reflection reflected who he really was. A furry.
