It had been months since that day at Cigale and Alex had only sent Miles a few messages. The messages said that he made "home" and that he was fine. Of course Miles didn't buy that silence treatment bullshit, he understood Alex wasn't leaving Louise for him after all. Miles kept waiting though, he kept sending Alex messages, one after another, trying to get any reply whatsoever. His love was irreversible by now, so he just put away his hopes in a tiny box for keepsake and kept going.Miles got Alex's cold, which turned out to be the flu. He was forced to cancel gigs and Alex hadn't even called once to check on him. Not only his voice was gone, his throat was sore and his heart shattered.
Miles voice came back eventually and his throat was no longer sore, only his heart didn't get to be fixed. He began to rebuild himself one more time, brick by brick. He knew he was on survival mode once again, and to be fair, he would be like that until the day he had Alex just for himself. It couldn't be that difficult, could it?
But in reality...it could. Alex was miserable and wrapped in Louise's plan. He was not allowed to speak about it with anyone, especially Miles. Louise kept track of all his messages and phone calls, and when Alex finally got to ask Miles to play with them in London, their conversation was merely professional. Miles felt that something was off but didn't say anything over the phone. He thought it would be better to pry whatever it was happening in person. But that Monkeys gig came, and Alex spoke only two words to Miles, the first one was "Hi" and the second one was "Bye". That upset Miles further, although he could tell Alex was hiding something and that his attitude was, not only unprecedented, but completely out of character. Miles tried to approach Alex, but Louise was guarding him, not even going to the toilet for the whole time.
It was on Miles gig in London though, that things started to change. Alex had to go to France for Louise's gig, but the agreement was that he could see Miles in London's gigs, so she had to give in. Alex stayed behind alone for Miles' gig and Louise headed to Paris the day before. Alex would have to go to Paris the next day, but he didn't mind the rush, since he could finally approach Miles and tell him what was going on, contrary to one of the most distressing and sacred of Louise's rules.
