It was a dark clear skied night, the breeze was just barely there. The moon peaked out in the sky and the stars were spread far across the sky. A girl stood atop of a fence, crouching down on the fence surrounding a house, she stared at the moon with a deathly look. She rummaged through her pocket for something, she stopped, she found it.
--
"Ona dear, it's late!" An elderly woman shouted from a doorway, the girl shouted out and fell flat out onto her butt, a pocket knife fell to the ground from her hand. The elderly woman glared at the knife.
"What did I tell you about weapons, your not an assassin!" The woman scolded the girl from the doorway, the girl stood up and grabbed the pocket knife, she closed the blade and tucked it into her pocket.
"Grandma, I think I realised." The girl whined, the girl not actually being a girl, she was around the age of 16 and 17.
"I will be one day though!" The girl spoke quietly as she looked at the ground with a blank look, the grandmother cocked her head.
"Speak up!" The grandmother shouted at the girl, the girl lifted her head and smiled, she ran over to her grandmother.
"Nothing!" She squeaked out happily, maybe a little to happily, she gave her grandmother a kiss on the cheek, and walked inside. She walked into a room and plopped herself onto her bed, it was hard but had a nice warm wooly blanket, she settled underneath it.
"I will become a assassin." The girl whispered, she turned onto her side and closed her eyes.
--
"What do you mean, are you crazy!?" The grandmothers voice echoed across the house, Ona opened her eyes and listened.
"Ma'am are you sure, I heard reports from others in this village that there had been a young girl living here who wanted to become an assassin." A man spoke, Ona's eyes widened, and she burst up, her blanket flew off of her and she bolted to the doorway, her hair was a mess and she was still half asleep but she ran up from behind her grandmother, her grandmother sighed.
"You are correct sir." The girl gasped out, she panted, it was not easy to bolt up after waking up. She looked at the man and he looked at her, he was a middle aged man who looked like he was lower class, he had a pile of what seemed to be scrolls. The man smiled and handed her a scroll.
"That's great, meet in Estrial in ten days, there will be a place where you can sign in, they will put you through a course which will decide your rank, if you don't die or quit." The man smirked as he said that, Ona greedily grabbed the scroll and she blushed, her face had this serious look on it.
"By the way the scroll doesn't have any maps on it, it just says the time and date." The man told Ona who bounced around.
"This is my chance!" Ona thought to herself. Her grandmother glared at her, the man said his goodbyes, and the grandmother slammed the door shut.
"Ona, did you not hear the man?" The grandmother asked the girl, she looked over to her grandma with a smile.
"Exciting right!?" Ona cheered out, she was shaking in excitement. The grandmother glared at the girl.
"You idiot, you could die and all for this stupid petty dream of yours, do you even know what an assassin is?" Ona's grandmother asked harshly, Ona's smile faded.
"Yes, assassin's kill people, I'm prepared for that but you know why I need to become an assassin." Ona's face became blank with emotion.
"I'm going to hunt mother and father down." Ona spoke out, the grandmother looked at her granddaughter in pity.
"Your parents are terrible, why would you want to find them?" The grandmother asked the girl. The girl walked towards the door, she opened it then slammed it shut as she walked out. Her grandmother didn't chase after her as she ran into the main parts of the village.
"Stupid grandma ruining my day as usual!" Ona thought to herself bitterly, having pity for herself.
"Hey Ona!" A little boy's voice shouted out, Ona snapped her head in the direction of the voice, she looked over and saw a boy running towards her.
"Mika!" Ona smiled and waved him hello.
"You got one too, a man is going around asking people to join the assassins association!" Mika told her, Ona smiled and showed him her scroll.
"Are you heading on the journey soon?" Mika asked her, they walked along the paths together, people passed them by, working hard.
"Probably but grandma is being a pain!" Ona responded, Mika frowned.
"She's just worried about you, you could possibly die!" Mika told her, Ona sighed.
"I'm not planning on dying, not yet alright!" Ona told him, Mika smiled at her.
"My mama told me the man was fishy and that he clearly didn't have enough details!" Mika told Ona who thought to herself.
"Actually you're right but I just can't-" Ona sighed and looked at the ground, she kicked a rock. Her eyes widened, she kicked a rock right into someone's leg.
