Millita isekai
Chapter 4: The Required Harvest
.
The previous celebration was good, but a new day had arrived and everyone had to resume their daily activities, or that was the idea since many in the village were sleepy and only lifted their backs to then fall surrendered to the temptation of staying a little longer lying down.
Millita gave a big yawn and prepared herself to spruce herself up in order to resume a new day's work, but her "morning shower" was taking much longer than necessary.
"Enough, Millita, don't be lazy. Remember, you're the working kitten," she thought, then shaking her head and coming out of her comfortable hut.
"Good morning Mr. Sun, bring us a good morning without any hail or storm please. You, too, Mr. Wind, do your part," said the kitten to the star king and the breeze that was rocking her whiskers at the time.
When nothing anticipated that this would be a day that did not leave the daily routine, Millita's ears suddenly rotated to one side, apparently there was a sort of bustle at the entrance to the village.
Khompa, the quirquincho she saved earlier, was on the floor and it was clear what a bruise on his left cheekbone apeared. In front of him were nothing less than a group of three creatures that Millita did not expect to find in this world at this point: Humans!
"And if you answer us badly again, we'll give you a lot of kicks you have no idea, eh? Eh!"
"You can't do this," said the poor Khompa, but this complaint gave him a kick which put him back on the floor and then one of the humans put his foot on his head so that he wouldn't get up again.
"Please stop hurting him!" Khirita begged as she was held by the village elder.
"Quiet Khirita, don't go."
"Huh? What did you say, midget? I see we've been very gentle with you little ones, I think it's best if we teach you some respect."
The other humans nodded with evil smiles and were already waving their ready arms to give more beatings to the innocent creatures.
"Meow! Don't come near my friends! HISSS." Hissed Millita as she ran.
With a great leap she reached the face of the nearest human and gave him two scratches on his ugly face, which she repeated with the other two hooligans.
The three invaders found themselves with their buttocks on the ground and covering their faces with their hands, but then they separated their fingers to see the creature that had attacked them.
"No, not again," thought Millita as she saw semitransparent menus unfold again indicating the race and various attributes of those she had scratched.
As always, Millita decided to give a paw to what seemed to be the frame of the data panels and these were closed again, awaiting various confirmations from the kitten.
"I don't know who you are, but it's not right what you're doing," said Millita, not knowing if humans understood her or not.
Apparently they didn't understand him because all they did was to see Millita with eyes wide open and their mouths open with surprise.
"O... Otorongo!" shouted one of the men and then the three of them got up as fast as they could and then ran away.
Millita and the quirquinchos watched in amazement as the men stumbled in their quick escape to disappear from sight after a great depression in the terrain.
"What was that? What is an otorongo," Millita asked of no one in particular.
The village elder explained to Millita that an otorongo was a kind of small jaguar that lived far east of where they were.
"Oh, I didn't know. Do I really look so intimidating?"
"I think it was more of a surprise to see you here, Millita, which made them flee scared, we always believed that you were a kind of margay."
"What's that?"
"It's like an otorongo, but much smaller."
"Oh, I see, but not my friends, I'm neither one nor the other. I'm a cat."
"A cat?" Several said and crossed glances.
"Well, thank goodness the humans confused you with an otorongo Millita, so we'll have more time."
"More time? What do you mean, chief? And to all this, who were those humans?"
"We call them: the diggers, they are humans who live far away from here and who come here often so that we can give them what we collect."
"Did you make a pact with them or something? What do you get in return?"
"The only thing we get in return for our work are punchs, Millita" said Khompa, who was taken care of by Khirita, "but one of these days they'll see what's good."
"Don't say that Khompa," said Khirita.
"That's terrible! And what do they ask of you?"
"They always come punctually so that we give them several sacks with leaves of sleep. Sleeping leaves are very valuable for excavators, they take away their sleep and mitigate their hunger, or at least that's what they told us... We have to give them large quantities or else... Well, you saw what happened Millita."
"This season's harvest was not very good because of the drought," said someone, "but thanks to you, Millita, now we have more time to collect for the diggers."
"But this doesn't solve the problem, my friends... I'd like to see those leaves of sleep."
They led Millita to a vast field of cultivation where the dream bushes were found. As soon as Millita saw the crops, again more panels of data appeared that only Millita was able to see.
The kitty didn't understand anything of what the data showed and again the screens were closed by a paw of Millita, while they unfolded the name of what the humans were looking for: coca leaves.
