'The Iris of hell': myths and truths about the stone in Helena' s locket

Stella removed her mask and sighed. Her long red hair fell behind her back as she shook her head and smiled apologetically at me. She kept the mask on my dressing table and looked at me while biting her lips. She was not being able to keep constant eye contact with me and her blue eyes kept losing the continuity as it kept moving between the floor and my eyes. She tapped her feet and scratched on her neck for the next few minutes.

I tapped on the space beside me on my bed and she sat there, awkwardly. She handed over the thick book to me. It looked ancient with lots of dust and torn papers. I opened the book and started reading it.

Long ago, an estate owner named William Eldon married a young and beautiful peasant named Helena Trovotski. She was the Belle of the town, Charisma and elegance were not but companions of each and every action of hers. The wind around her was aromatic, the land beneath her feet was blooming ground for the prettiest of flowers in the world. Her blond curls were not but the proof for ductility of gold and her eyes were more elegant than the most elegant precious stones in the world. Her smile was more beautiful than the glory of the sky witnessing the rise of the sun and her laugh was a lullaby. She was indeed among the most beautiful girls in the town of Gopella.

"Don't you think the author was just a little too fascinated about her beauty?" I asked Stella.

"Most of the authors just lose their control when they describe a beautiful girl, just skip to the next paragraph"

William Eldon was an average looking man with above average kindness. He spent most of his free time with the peasants in the village, listening to their problems and helping them. He was loved and respected by all but known by none. He was more than a mere estate owner. He was from the other world.

The mortal world was oblivious to the parallel magical world that co-existed with them. They thought that the missing cases of redhead girls during October 13s and the flowers that bloomed out of season, every once in a while, were nothing worth noticing and studying. None of them cared to know about it until a being from the other world dared to use his skill in this world.

A lot of beings in the other world were born without gifts. They did not have magical powers like their fellow beings. However, these people, who were called as 'sparkless' , were not completely devoid of spark. Their blood did have spark and their blood and meat were actually blessings for the sparked ones. Eating their meat made the sparks in the sparked ones more powerful so it was not an unheard story when sparked parents killed their sparkless children, it was even permitted by the law.

William Eldon's parents valued him more than their sparks and they were afraid of the sparked ones around them who would not hesitate to kill him for his meat so they forced him to migrate to our world.

There were a lot of sparkless ones in our world and they occasionally helped their friends or relatives by serving them with redhead girls for their sacrificing festivals. The sparkled ones could not pass through the portal, that was a blessing that only the 'sparkless' ones had and living in our world made their blood more sparkled. This made their meat have more medicinal value. However, no sparkless beings returned to the parallel world before Eldon. Once the sparkless reached this world, they never gave a shot at returning and this was because of the fact that they valued their life more than their family.

This world respected the beings from the other world and that is why the flowers bloomed out of season whenever one of them fell in love. It was blooming of red roses that occurred the day when Eldon met Helena. Eldon's world slowed down when he saw the most beautiful girl his eyes had ever laid on. He knew that she was the girl who could be the Sun of his world. She was the girl who could be the beat of his heart. She was the rose that could spread its fragrance throughout his life.
