Your POV

You sit quietly in your living room, sipping your morning coffee while you read your new book. The sun sneaks up over your windowsill and slowly fills the room with its warm light.

You put your book down and rest your chin in your palm, gazing out the window. You live peacefully on a villa in Italy, three miles away from anything remotely close to civilization. Surrounding your home is nothing but fields and valleys. Although you can't say you're ungrateful for your beautiful new home, the country life has been incredibly dull compared to your old life as an Avenger.

You hear a door creak behind you, and you turn around to see your husband, Steve, walking towards you rubbing his eyes. "Mornin,'" He says, eyeing you curiously after glancing at the clock. "How long have you been up?"

You smile. "Not long." As much as you two have in common, one thing you don't share is the love of mornings. You love waking up with the sun, while Steve can barely stand being up before 9:00.

Steve pours himself a cup of coffee. "I gotta talk to you about something." He sits down next to you on the couch, scooting closer to you.

You glance up at him over the pages of your book. "What's up, love?"

Steve pauses. "Its about the Avengers association."

You sit up straighter and set your book down, your heartbeat growing faster. "What about it?"

Steve rests his face in his fingers, scrunching his beard thoughtfully. "Thanos has caught up to us. He's after the Infinity stones, this time they're having trouble keeping him away. They need backup." He meets your gaze. "Avenger backup."

You can barely contain your excitement. You haven't fought since the battle between Steve and Tony, and you can't help but look forward to fighting with your teammates again. You haven't seen most of your friends for months. "Well, what are we waiting for? When do we leave?"

You jump up, straightening the tie on your bathrobe and step towards your bedroom. Before you can take another, you feel a tug on your sleeve. "Y/n, wait."

You turn around and laugh, thinking Steve is messing with you, but your smile is erased when you see the conflicted expression Steve is holding. "What?"

He sighs, rubbing his eyes again.

Realization hits you like a ton of bricks. "You don't want me to go, do you?"

"Y/n, Thanos is out to destroy the entire galaxy, and is willing to kill anyone who tries to stop him. Loki is already dead, who knows where Thor and Bruce are. I don't want you getting in the middle of this."

Your mouth drops open and you stare down at him. "Get in the middle of this? Steve, I'm just as much an Avenger as you are, I think we're wayyy past the point of me getting in the middle of fights."

"I didn't mean-"

You don't let him finish. "You can't just decide for me which fights I get to be in and which ones I sit out on because we're married. We're in this together, remember?"

Steve looks up at you, and you see his eyes are welling up. "I just don't want you to get hurt. If something happened to you, I don't think I could go on."

You feel your anger begin to melt away as you look down at his mournful face. You try to stay angry, not wanting to lose your ground just yet, but you find you can't muster the strength. "Aw man," you say, running your fingers through his hair. "Why do you have to go and be sweet right in the middle of our argument?"

Steve gives you a watery smile as he takes your hand and kisses it. "I love you a lot."

"I love you, too."

He stands up and wraps his muscular arms around you, letting your face smoosh into his chest. You feel his chin rest on the top of your head.

You look up at him after a moment of silence. "But you know, if Thanos succeeds, we all might die anyway. I'd rather go down fighting for a chance than sit around and wait for something to happen."

Steve nods thoughtfully. "Yeah," he says through a sigh, adjusting his hold on you. "I guess that makes sense. Just promise me you won't put yourself in a situation where I or anyone else can't help you. I don't want to risk your life for anything."

You roll your eyes. "Steve, come on. That's not realistic." But when he pushes, you finally agree.

Steve plants a kiss on your forehead before dropping his arms. "Now that we got that out of the way, want some breakfast?" He strolls over to the kitchen and twirls a frying pan in his fingers, smiling at you. "I saw a new recipe that I wanted to try out."

You smile as you walk over and sit down in a barstool up against your kitchen counter. "Why would I say no to breakfast being made for me?" You squint and point your finger playfully. "Just don't leave all the dishes for me afterwards, okay?"

Steve laughs, cracking a few eggs into the pan. "I promise. I'll clean up after myself."

You nod, a smile creeping up from under your stern expression. "Good."
