Marylee's POV:
I arrived at the bar to find out it was extremely crowded this evening. I pushed my way through the crowd, trying to reach the bar.
I did after a bit of effort and put my arms up on the wooden counter, leaning over the bar in an attempt to attract the attention of my best friend. Kenneth was working behind the bar nearly every night and today was no exception.
He looked surprised when he saw me and after giving out the beers he was tapping, he made his way over to me.
'Lee, I thought you weren't coming tonight.'
I smiled at him and shrugged.
'I am trying to please my roommate with my absence.'
Kenneth laughed and shook his head.
'You really do try to change things, don't you?'
I shrugged again.
'We'll see. I gotta give it a shot at least. Who's playing tonight? It's so crowded, they must be good.'
Kenneth nodded.
'They're supposed to be pretty hot stuff. People are saying they'll be the next big thing. I haven't heard them yet though.'
'Sounds promising.'
'Well they better live up to our expectations now', he winked. 'Hey, do you want something.'
'Oh please', I replied. 'I'd love a gin tonic.'
He raised his eyebrows in a jolly manner before he turned around to mix my drink. I chuckled. It was basically my regular order.
He swiftly placed my drink on the counter before me. With a bold gesture he grabbed a glass of his own and held it up. I picked mine up and clinked it against his.
'To some good music', I said.
'And a happy roommate, cheers', he added.
I smiled and took a sip of my drink. Nice and refreshing.
Kenneth and I had a long history of watching bands perform at this particular bar. He had been working here since before I moved to London and I had been going here since I started at university two years ago. I had lost track of the amount of bands we had seen together.
I turned my head into the direction of the band when I heard them enter the stage, introducing themselves and starting at their first song. It sounded good. They produced a nice, full, rock and roll sound. The bodies in the room were swaying away to the rhythm.
I looked over to Kenneth, who had also turned to face the band.
'Rather good', he shouted at me.
I nodded in agreement.
'They go to your university, I heard', Kenneth said, leaning in close to me so I could hear him over the noise.
I had never seen any of them around, but that was no surprise. The university was huge and had many different departments. We probably weren't even in the same building. But regardless it was a nice little thing to know.
I looked at the band again, that consisted of three guys, all rocking the same long rockstar hairstyle. I giggled to myself. The dark haired lead singer was also playing the guitar and both the drummer and the bassist were doing backing vocals. Their eyes all displayed passion and excitement. It made you feel alive just to watch them. They really were a good band.
'The drummer looks kinda like your type', Kenneth shouted in my ear from behind me, making me jump.
I turned around and slapped his arm, which was leaning on the counter.
