Lower expectations

You sat in the warmth of the coffee shop. You cupped your hands around your cup of coffee as you looked out the shop's window. You checked the time on your phone. '40 minutes past.' You thought as you sighed.

You nervously tapped your foot. 'How much longer should I wait?' You thought as you looked down at your cup. "You've been stood up?" A male voice asks as out of the corner of your eye you see someone sit in the seat across from you . You look up to see a very attractive brunette sitting across from you.

You smile sadly and chuckle nervously. "Yeah I think so." You say and he reaches a hand out. "I'm Jaren." You hesitantly shake his hand. "Y/N.." You say raising an eyebrow towards him.

"So who were you waiting on?" He asks and you sigh "My boyfriend actually.." You say as you look away and out the window. "Good boyfriend huh? When was he supposed to be here?" Jaren asks and you look at him.

"40 minutes ago." You say, him asking so many questions was almost irritating you, but also intriguing you. "So its safe to say I can drink a coffee with you?" He asks and you sit up straight.

"Is it something you want from me? Money? Drugs? A one night stand?" You ask a little rudely.

Jaren clears his throat. "No no! God no. I just thought I'd get out of my comfort zone today and my gut told me this is my opportunity." He says motioning towards to you. You laugh and shake your head. "So basically what you're telling me is that you had a feeling to talk to me?" You asked with a raised eyebrow. Jaren laughed nervously "U-Uh... Yes." He gave a goofy grin and you shruged.

"What the hell. Why not?"

*Seven months later*

"Suck it Mini!" You yelled as you just passed Miniladd, a content creator on Youtube, who was also known as Craig in a game of Mario Kart. Mini screamed his lungs out as he tried to use his power ups to pass you but to no avail. You took first place and shot your arms up in the air in victory. "You're worse than Smitty!" You hear Ohm exclaim and you chuckle. You hear all the other guys on the discord call groan in annoyance, bringing an amused smile to your face.

You slipped off your headphones and turn around in Jaren's chair as you heard Jaren walk in. "It's pizza time!" Jaren exclaims as he sets down the box of pizza and two plates. "Took you long enough." You joked to which Jaren laughed and rolled his eyes.

"Did you win?" He asks as he dishes up two slices for the two of you. "Twice, first place." You said as you took a plate of pizza from Jaren who was handing it to you. "I knew you could do it." Jaren smugly replies and you scoff. "As if! I saw the look you gave me when you went to go get the pizza." You said and you rolled your eyes and you turned around in Jarens chair, slipping on your headphones again. Jaren pulled up a stool, and put on his headphones (As he already had them set up before he left to go get the pizza).

"Jesus you two just fuck already!" You heard Mini say and you scoffed. "Sorry I can't live up to your fantasies and the rest of whoever the hell thinks thats a good idea, Craig." You retort to which you heard a few chuckles. "Plus we all know the only real so-called relationship Jaren has ever had is with Octavia." You said and Jaren let out a "Hey!" In protest with a mouthfull of pizza.

You heard roaring laughter as you took a bite of your own slice of pizza. "And what makes you think you're so experienced with relationships, Y/N?" Jaren snarkily asks as he takes another bite of his pizza. "Well it's pretty obvious I know a lot more than you." You grin, knowing you're annoying Jaren just by the look on his face. "Well I am the ONE who talked to you in the coffee shop when you got stood up." Jaren said, slightly infuriating you.
