Lower Expectations II

It wasn't Jaren.

You had lost your breath at the sight. You couldn't believe who was standing before you.

"Hey." Josh said with a slight smile. You couldn't believe the nerve this guy had to show up to YOUR house. You had no idea what to say so you just shut the door. But before it could shut fully Josh put his foot in the door to stop it from going any further.

"Please, Y/N let me talk with you." He said, his pleading voice making your heart ache. You opened the door with a gulp as you shamefully looked up at him. "Look I'm sorry. With everything that's happened. You were right and I was wrong."

"And you're now just figuring that out?" You scoff and he shakes his head as he rubs the back of his neck. "No actually... I just knew you'd turn me away every opportunity I got. But I needed to try. And I want another shot at this. I realized the mistake I made and after you left I haven't been with anyone since. I'm so sorry Y/N." Josh apologised and you looked down. You didn't want to let him in.

But you weren't in your right mind. You needed comfort and to get your mind off of Jaren right now.

"Come in."

(Several hours later)

You had fallen asleep on Josh's shoulder. You and him had caught up, he even had told you he was surprised you weren't with Jaren as you talked about him a lot.

Josh obviously wasn't too happy with Jaren since Jaren had hurt you. So when Josh heard the doorbell and opened it to see Jaren, Josh wasn't all too pleased. "What're you doing here?" Josh snarled and Jaren frowned.

"I came to talk to Y/N... What are you doing here? Where's Y/N? What have you done to her?" Jaren asked, trying to peer over Josh's shoulder to try to find you. "She texted me to come over since you hurt her, so I'm here helping her." Josh said as he folded his arms, trying to look bigger than he was. Jaren looked at Josh suspiciously. You hadn't spoken about still being in contact with Josh since the two of you had broken up. And you tell Jaren almost everything.

"Let me talk to Y/N." Jaren demanded and Josh scoffed. "As if. You hurt her real bad and I'm not about to let you do that again." Josh said, keeping his strong stance.

"Let me see her now. I want to see if she is at least alive." Jaren said, stepping closer to Josh. Jaren was growing impatient and he wasn't about to have any of Josh's bullshit.

"Go home. She doesn't want to see you. In fact, she said she hated your guts. She told me she'd be better off if she never saw you again." Josh lied, making Jaren's face drop. Jaren couldn't tell if he was lying now. He didn't want to believe Josh but he said it without hesitation and so clearly.

"Josh." You growled and Josh moved aside, while turning around to see you. His face went pale. "Get the hell out of my house." You growled at him and Josh huffed and grabbed his jacket, along with slipping on his shoes and he left.

Jaren looked at you. He looked at you as if you were the most fragile thing on earth. "Y/N... is what Josh said.. true?" Jaren asked, his voice slightly cracking. You looked up at him with worry. "What? No. Jaren I know I'm mad at you but I could never hate you. What you said really hurt but I don't think I could bare never seeing you again..."

You gulped and rubbed your arm awkwardly. "Y/N I'm so sorry, I never meant to say those things. What I said was so... shitty of me. I-I don't know what came over me. I've been trying to call and text you all day. I got so worried that something happened to you I had to come and see you." Jaren said as you were holding back tears.

Jaren looked at you, unsure of what to do. He stepped forward and gently placed his hands on your arms. He was so cold, as he had just been outside and it was almost 10PM now. You looked up at Jaren as a few uncontrollable tears managed to escape your eyelids and roll down your cheeks.

This broke Jaren's heart. He hated himself for making you cry out of sadness. He never wanted to see anyone so heartbroken, not even you. "I'm so so SO sorry Y/N." Jaren said, his voice raw and full of emotion. You hugged him tightly and he didn't hesitate in hugging you back.

You laughed as you cried. "We're so fucking petty and I love it." You say as you exhale sharply. "No it's only you." Jaren said as he kept hugging you. You pulled away quickly and gave Jaren a glare. "I'm kidding!" He said and you saw his signature, and beautiful smile, making your heart melt.

"I hate you." You said and Jaren chuckled and shook his head. "I hate you too Y/N."
