Hogwarts won the match, which sucked.
She remembered like it was still happening, when in reality it was now over an hour ago that it happened. She remembered the golden snitch gliding through the air as it slipped further away from her, how the wind was so strong that she was fighting to fly against it. Then she remembered how James somehow swooped in, unbothered by the wind, and snatched the ball out of the air. The feeling of defeat as she saw the Gryffindors celebrating, and the worse feeling as she saw the looks on her teammates' faces.
And then maybe she was distracted, and that was the reason why they lost. She was distracted with the idea that she had somehow hurt James. She couldn't handle that, she cared for him too much.
But Quinn had a plan. She was going to go to the after party (run by the Hogwarts Gryffindors) and talk to him.
He needed to know she loved him. James. Not Eli, James.
Was love too strong a word?
What defines love?
But she knew it wasn't even something she needed to think about. Because James was all she thought about. This was different to any other guy she had known before, how she felt was different to anything else. This terrified her but also made her want to bake lots of cakes and sing with happiness. Her brain was strange.
She entered the Gryffindor common room with a group of Hogwarts students, trying to blend in because she knew she'd probably get harassed if people realise she was an Ilvermorny Quidditch Player. Specifically the seeker that was part of one of the most threatening teams in the tournament.
The common room was mad. It stunk of alcohol and lots of sweaty people, gross. She weaved through the bodies in attempts to find James, bowing her head as she went so as to not get recognised.
She saw him sitting alone by the window, his breath fogging up the glass as he stared into the night. Very dramatic of him.
She walked over and sat beside him, not aware that she was being watched curiously by quite a few Gryffindors.
He looked at her with a blank expression, the life seemed to have been drained from his face.
Eli kissed me. You know that? She asked.
Yes, He signed quickly.
Well I don't think you know that I pushed him away, I don't like him like that, She told him.
Really? He asked, his expression changing slightly.
Yes, she nodded.
Are you sure? He asked.
Yes, She grinned, Now why were you mad at me?
Because I thought you were with him and lying to me. I'm sorry I was mad, it was stupid, He signed.
I'm sorry too, I'd never want to hurt you, She signed with a small smile.
He reached over and held her hand in his, squeezing it in reassurance.
She pulled away quickly, much to his alarm, but it was to sign the words:
I love you.
Well, she did it.
The smile that blossomed on his face was overwhelmingly bright. He quickly pulled her to him and kissed her with so much joy she thought she might fall to the floor.
She guessed this was a good sign.
