Memories

Memories. They can either bring you pain or happiness. In some cases, they bring you both at the same time. They can be some of the most painful things you have experienced, or they can be some of your best times where you had no concern about the future and could be as carefree as you wanted.

Ever since we're born, these memories begin creating themselves. Seeing your mom cry as she was holding you after bringing you to the world full of joy and happiness. Or seeing her cry and scream as she couldn't hear your first cries. It's hearing your parents fight because one of them came home a little bit too drunk one night. It's seeing your dad put his suitcase into his car and driving off while your mom is in the kitchen crying. It's holding your mom's hand as she gives birth to your sibling six months after your dad left. It's waking up to find your sister missing and having the whole town looking for her. It's realizing that she might be dead and that you no longer can hold her hand as she cried in her bed at night. It's realizing that your mom never loved you as you loved her.

Ruby never liked her memories. She thought that they were all too sad and that every one of them would only bring her sadness even if they were happy memories. So when her mom told her that they were moving to a small town called Forks, Ruby felt emotionless. She knew why her mother decided to move away from Seattle, but she did not know why it had to be Forks.

"Why did we have to move to Forks, mom? Couldn't we have gone to somewhere more exciting like Paris or Rome?"

"You know that I got transferred to their police department and it will be good for us. Get a fresh start after everything we have been through." Ruby looked out the window as they passed the 'WELCOME TO FORKS' sign, "You mean after dad leaving us, my sister disappearing, you ignoring me for months and drowning yourself in work?" Hale looked at her daughter with shock written all over her face. Never before had she heard her own daughter say those words towards her in such a tone.

"Forks will be good for us. For you." Ruby looked at her mother for a split second before looking out the window again, "We don't want another one of those episodes, Ruby."

If you only knew.
