Fast forward to present day, 2009, NBA Draft day

Steve is sitted, next to his pops, nervously waiting. The first pick goes to Kelvin Derek, his tablemate. The second pick... third pick... and so on. Until the 15th pick, " With the 15th pick in the first round, Golden State Warriors select, Steven Carey!" Steve was ecstatic! He hugged his pops and went up to the stage.

After the draft was over, many criticised the Warriors for drafting Steve. Only a few put in good words for Steve. Shannon called Steve up and congratulated him for making it to the NBA. They talked over the phone for a while before deciding to meet up. A good 30 minutes drive to Shannon's house follows the phone call, as he brought popcorns for movie night at her house to celebrate.

As he was the shortest player of the team, he worked hard to prove others wrong. He would ask his coach to open the gym at 5am in the morning, close the gym at 8pm. It was a tough process, turning himself into a efficient 3-point shooter.

His first game of his first season started and he was the starting point guard. Up against Phoenix Suns and their star rookie, Christ Powell, second overall pick, he was anxious. Rookie pressure, he could not find his rhythm in the first quarter, shooting 1/4 from field and missing two free throws. However, the coach did not pressure Steve and encouraged him to pull up more. He managed to find a small gap between his defender and him, and from way downtown, he sinks the first triple of the second quarter! "CAREY FROM WAAAAAYY DOWNTOWN!" screamed the commentator.

He felt as though he could do so much more at this point and proceeds to send another triple in their next offensive possession. The game went well for Steve, but not so well for the entire team. They were down 4 with 50 seconds left. The scoreboard showed 103-99. It was really hard on Steve, as the point guard, running the play. Out of their last timeout, the coach asked Steve to run the backdoor fake screen. In the game, as Steve was screening from the right corner, he twisted his ankle and was in pain. Pushing away the pain with all his might, he sprinted towards the right corner with the big man screening for him. He receives a pass from his backcourt mate, Monsta Elise, perfectly timed. The ball rises and the screen was loose, a hand swats towards the ball, but it hits Steve's hand instead! The ball lands gently on the side to the hoop, rolls around the hoop two times, and slowly falls in. The crowd erupts in cheers thinking they could bring it into overtime...

Steve tells Monsta he injured himself on the last possession and that Monsta will be shooting the game winner. Steve shoots his free throw and sinks it. "DE-FENSE!! DE-FENSE!!" the crowd goes. With the score being at 103-103, Christ Powell, drives harshly towards the basket, eurosteps and jams the hammer! 105-103! There was no time for thinking, they had only 7 seconds with Monsta pushing the pace! Steve was shocked that Christ Powell could do such a thing and as injured as he was, he could not do much. Monsta dishes it to an open man, to which he gave back to Monsta, with 2 seconds left. Monsta pulls from 3-point range...

"AND HE MAKES IT! MONSTA THE MVP!!" the commentators go wild as Warriors win their first game. After the game, Monsta and Steve had a vet to rook talk and they look at the box score with stats showing that Steve had five 3-pointers(Monsta had 4) and 85%(Monsta had 70%) free throw percentage and Monsta admits Steve was the real MVP of the game. Fans were convinced that maybe the rookie they thought couldn't do much, can acheive great things.
