Playoffs, second game. Warriors 1 game lead over Clippers.
The voice of Kobe, "fall short of one win", stuck in Steve's mind. He hits 46/50 threes in practice, 92% being a high percentage, he proceeded to Oracle Arena, disappointed. He was already arguably the best shooter NBA has ever seen, yet he continues to push himself forward.
Reaching Oracle Arena, he took a deep breath and went to his locker. Being silent, too silent, Kay gave him a thumbs-up which he noticed, returning it with a poker face. A determined poker face. The entire team burst out of their locker room and started their pre-game warmups...
The game starts soon and Steve wants to sit out for one quarter and the coach refuses. Steve starts the game. "Clutching" his way through, Steve nails 4/4 FG, 3 threes in a row, in just 7 minutes. Warriors seemed destined to sweep the Clippers out of the playoffs easily with Steve hot on fire tonight. However, things turned out unexpected for this game tonight...
Kiwii Lammord. Clipper's star player and the league's top 5 active perimeter defender. The force to stop any off-ball and on-ball offense...
A barrage of screens, a quick handoff to Steve, a crossover, between his legs and- Kiwii read that move! He swats the ball before Steve could bring it to his set point and dishes it to his duo, Pedro Geoff. Pedro was quick to read that the pass from Kiwii was slow and it was a 1-on-2 fastbreak. With his athletism, he rises over both Draymend and Boget, adding a flashy one-handed tomahawk jam, placing the ball into the rim!
Commentators screamed, "Pedro...Pedro!! PEDRO! HE DUNKS IT IN! WOAH! SUCH ATHLETISM!!!"
It was disheartening, but not enough to stop Steve from losing concentration. He is Steve Carey after all. He got the ball off the inbound, pushing the pace, quick iso. He places the ball in his left hand, crosses to the right, and just like that the ball was gone and Kiwii could not believe it! The ball was dished to Kay who already shot it before the defense realised! Pedro Geoff was decent on defense but it wasn't enough. They could just rely on Kiwii to stop Steve but it is not effective... As the game went on, only one thing stood in the Clippers way... time. The score was dead locked but as the finished up first quarter, the score was 44-32. A high-scoring quarter you could say.
The second quarter remained quite the same with Steve out. He was out of gas but ready to return in the third and fourth quarter... Entering halftime, 75-56...
Third quarter starts and Steve was off! A quick three, a steal, lays it in, a block, an assist to a Boget dunk! What a sequence!! The Clippers had to sit Kiwii since he was tired and Steve Carey, he decided to punish Geoff. The ball was placed in his hands and he danced on Geoff like he was nothing. They were both rookies, but with different skill levels. Carey pulls a three IN HIS FACE! A little razzle dazzle, left to right crossover, stepback, shot fake, in-and-out crossover, he gets pass Geoff, who was reaching and fell. A highlight reel! He places the ball into the rim, dunking it! Barely. It was an inspiration!
A fan shouted into the court, "Look at Carey man! Such an inspiration!"
Dub Nation chanted Carey's name. Fueled by it, they finished the third quarter with 93-89, a 34 point performance by the entire team!
The fourth quarter sees Carey going Takeover, Kiwii locking down as usual and it goes down to the wire. Warriors brought the Clippers' lead down until it became a deficit. 113-115 with no timeouts, 7.2 seconds, ball in Kiwii's hands. He brings the ball up the court and crosses back and forth slowly, sizing Carey up. He blasts to the right and steps back, pulling up! He read that Draymend would be there to help and dished it to role player, Lowe Wilsons. He pulls a three and sinks it! Score, 116-115, 2.1 seconds, Carey with the ball. A full court press was played on the Warriors but they broke it and time was running out. Commentators were going at it too...
"Time running out... one second! Clock winding down! OH! CAREY! LOGO THREE! WILL IT GO?! BAAAAAANG! BAAAANG!"
Buzzer sounds and Warriors win the game! Steve Carey yet again! They were overjoyed! It was a two game lead to none! They got it!
