"Wake up!""..."
"Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!"
"What?" I growled as I rolled over under the sheets, just barely opening my eyes. My friend hovered above me as her black locks fell over my face like a curtain.
"It's gone." Talia said, evident fear in her eyes.
"What is?"
"The monster-dog-thing!"
I sat up and looked around as the morning light was just gently seeping in through the cracks in the blinds. The room was empty and besides from the two of us so was the bed. Not knowing what else to do, I began to shift around the covers in hopes that the little black pooch would just pop out.
"Maybe it went back to the forest." I said uncertainly and Talia rolled her eyes at me.
"Yes and I'm sure it was perfectly capable of learning how to open the front door and operate the elevator with its tiny puppy paws." I shrugged and pushed the girl away from me just as I heard a knock at the front door.
"Maybe thats the dog now coming back for breakfast." I mocked and I could see Talia flinch at the idea as if it was an actual possibility. I walked quickly through the hall and opened the door to see Earnest as well as another younger boy who I did not recognize.
"Whats up?" I asked him with a yawn.
"I found this guy wandering around the lobby. I think he's lost." Earnest said, pointing to the boy behind him. The guy looked young, maybe twelve or thirteen, and was about my height. He had thick black hair and was wearing a blue robe that sank around his shoulders and hung open at his waist revealing plain clothes, brown pants and a white v-neck shirt but even then his whole attire seemed old, maybe even hand made. The guy was looking at the ground and his hair covered his eyes so I couldn't quite make out his face but he still appeared somewhat solemn and expressionless as his lips formed a straight line across his face wit a slight pout.
"Does he live in the building?" I asked Earnest and he shrugged.
"I dont know."
"Did you ask?"
"He wont answer any of my questions. He's as silent as the grave." Earnest said with a sigh. I groaned and turned to address the other boy only for him to walk right past me and into my apartment.
"Hey!" Earnest called after him as he ran inside. The lost boy took a seat at my small dining table, crossed his legs one over the other and folded his arms against his chest. He looked like a kid but he had the air of someone much older. Talia took a seat across from him.
"Are you lost?" She asked in a considerate tone. "Do you need us to call someone?" The boy said nothing.
"Why'd you bring him here?" I asked Earnest. "Couldn't you take him to your place or a police station or something?"
"I didnt have the time. I have to be at work in ten minutes." Earnest said which caused Talia to jump out of her chair.
"That's today!?" Se screamed.
"Did you already forget? We were supposed to help out at Uncles store this morning. He needs us there by nine."
"Shit!" Talia screeched as she ran from her room to go brush out her hair and gather her things.
"Will you be okay alone with this guy?" Earnest asked me as he glanced at the silent kid.
"I'll be fine." I assured him. "He's just a kid afterall."
Earnest showed me a face that showed he was unsure but then bit his lip and nodded in understanding just as Talia came storming out.
"Lets go! Lets go!" She screeched as she hooked Earnest by the arm and took off running down the hall. I watched them go before shutting the door and turning back to my unexpected guest. He just sat there starring at the table with his hair hanging over his face. He was sort of creepy but I wasn't at all scared of him.
"Do you want coffee?" I asked as I meandered to the kitchen. No answer. "What about juice or milk?" Still no answer. I sighed and poured myself a mug of coffee before coming back into the living room where I was surprised to find the guy up and moving about as he paced the small front room looking this way and that like a lost dog. I ignored him for a moment and sat down, placing my mug on the table. The clink of ceramic on wood made him turn back to me and upon looking up I was immediately mesmerized by his eyes. They were emerald green in a way that almost made them appear to glow and they were slitted like a snakes. I rubbed my eyes and tilted my head to make sure I was seeing things right and the boy copied my movements, blinking and tilting his head to the side in an almost playful matter. I then saw his lips move as he muttered something under his breathe.
"What was that?" I asked loudly before sipping my coffee.
"You're cute." The guy said, almost as if he was surprised by the fact, and I stared at him blankly before sipping my cup again nonchalantly.
"...thanks?" I muttered. I couldn't stop starring at those eyes that seemed so familiar to me but I couldn't quite place it. Where had I seen them before.
"Do you want to borrow my phone or something to call your parents?" I asked.
"I dont have parents." He answered.
"Then where do you live?" I asked and he smirked and shrugged. I took another sip of my coffee as I slowly came to the realization that not only was this guy not a normal human but he was also planning on giving me a hard time.
"What's your name?" I asked.
"You first." He said.
"I'm Y/n." I answered and for a second I swore I saw him flinch before he regained himself.
"I'm called Seally. I'm a king." He said with a tone of superiority which I found somehow amusing due to his size. I didn't laugh though and instead just nodded in understanding.
"So do you have a castle?" I asked.
"Yes."
"Where?"
"In the forest."
"Cool..."
"Do you want to see my castle?"
"Not really." I answered and he frowned.
"Do you want to see my castle?" He asked again and I sipped the last remains of my coffee. Was I allowed to say no again?
"Sure." I answered and his lips twitched upwards into a quirky little smile that reminded me that he was just a kid and not an adult like his manner lead me to believe.
"We're going now." He said. "Go get dressed."
