So this au is where everyone has a locket with a picture of their soulmate in it, but it only opens under certain circumstances.

You had the locket all your life, but it had never opened. Not that you had noticed, anyway. You were in the bakery where you worked, absentmindedly fiddling with the locket around your neck while waiting for the oven timer to go off. You gasped, hearing a click as your locket opened.

You quickly unhooked your chain, removing it from your neck in order to see the photo easily. You recognized him immediately, what with him being a bit of a celebrity and all. His name was Cole Brookstone, and he was the Earth Ninja. Your friends had only been able to open theirs when their soulmates were nearby, so you assumed the same applied to you.

The oven timer distracted you from your thoughts and you slipped your necklace into your pocket. You then hurried to rescue the cakes from being burnt, decorating them skillfully before placing them on a wire rack to cool.

Looking up, a confusing sight greeted you. Two Earth ninjas fought on the street outside the bakery. You were sure that one of them had to be your soulmate, but there was no way of telling which was good and which was evil. You decided to wait until the battle ended before approaching them.

About half an hour later, the ninja had finally defeated their doppelgängers with the help of Samurai X. They were a little tired, with small scrapes all around, but no major injuries. How did you know? Well, they came to your bakery to celebrate their victory, most likely Cole's idea. It was very widely known that he liked- no, loved cake.

You smiled to yourself, trying to figure out how to tell him while gesturing for them to sit down and grabbing your notepad and pen to take their orders. 2 red velvet cupcakes, 3 slices of fruit cake and 2 slices of chocolate fudge.

'Hey Cole, your locket!' One ninja exclaimed while you were cutting the cakes. You snuck a quick glance at them, seeing Cole looking at the picture in his locket. He gasped softly, and, not wanting to be caught staring, you turned back to the cake.

'How- wait what? That's the girl who just took our order!' You heard Cole's surprise in his voice. 'Ohmygosh, that's so cool!' An excited, slightly higher-pitched voice exclaimed. 'Shut it Jay!' Cole snapped, trying, and failing, to keep his voice down enough for you not to hear it. 'What if she heard? I've never done this before, what do I do now?'

You returned to their table with the cakes, at which Cole gave a little jump of surprise. He tried to play it off, but he wasn't a great liar, so you saw right through it. Nevertheless, seeing as you had no idea how to approach this situation, you played along, hoping he would bring it up soon.

You busied yourself with cleaning up and laughing at some of the hilarious exchanges between the ninja. Hearing footsteps behind you, you turned around, only to be met with the Earth ninja in front of you. He rubbed the back of his head nervously, clearing his throat. 'So, uh, I'm guessing you already know what I want to talk to you about.'

'I know, we're soulmates.' You smiled softly.

'Right. Well, uh, I was wondering if you would like to go out with me sometime -'

He paused, realizing he forgot to ask for your name.

'(Y/N). And I'd love to get to know you, Cole.'

A look of confusion crossed his face, at which you giggled. 'You're practically a celebrity. It's hard not to know your name.'

'Oh, right, kinda forgot about that part.' He chuckled. 'So, what do you say? Saturday afternoon?'

'Sure, its a date.' You quickly scribbled something on a piece of paper, handing it to him. 'Here's my number. You can text me anytime if something comes up.'

He smiled, slipping it into his pocket. And that was the beginning of a beautiful relationship.

So that was my first one shot, feedback is always welcome!
