description: Anne and her best friend Kylie decide to go to Manly Beach for a relaxing day out, but things don't go as planned...
————————————————————————
I groaned as Kylie pulled my blanket off me, attempting to wake me up."Anne! Come on~ you promised we'd go to the beach today!" She pouted, grabbing my legs and dragging me onto the floor.
"IT'S 10AM ON A SUNDAY!" I shouted. "It's so early!!"
"Yeah, and if we get there any later than 2, it'll be like a stampede. Come on, it takes you ages to get ready anyway." She slapped my leg and walked into the bathroom. I sat up and huffed.
I hate swimming.
I shifted uncomfortably as we laid on the sand, tanning.
"Hey, in a bit, let's go swim!" Kylie said happily.
"I don't know, Ky..." I said thoughtfully. "The tide looks kinda high."
"It's okay! We're experienced swimmers." She said smugly. I rolled my eyes playfully and stood up.
"Should we go, then?" I asked. She nodded and we ran to the shore. We found a spot where hardly anyone was swimming and started splashing around.
"I'll race you to that cliff!" Kylie giggled.
"Wait! Kylie, the tide over there is really high..." I warned, but she was already swimming ahead. I sighed and followed her speedily. As we swam towards the cliff, I heart something on my left and stopped. I looked up from the water to see a huge wave approaching, and I realised the water in the area we were swimming in was deep and dangerous. I looked ahead and saw Kylie was already climbing on the cliff, on safe land, when she noticed it.
"Anne! Swim faster!" She urged. Panicking as my arms stroked through the water, I accidentally inhaled some water and stopped to cough. I turned to my left, attempting to gauge just how distant it was, until it hit me.
Literally.
I was pushed underneath, struggling against the tide. Before I knew it, I was out of breath and stamina, eyes closing as I sank lower and lower...
I gasped as my eyes shot open. I felt the lips attached to mine pull away and I saw a blonde, freckled boy towered above me. I choked.
"Anne!" I heard Kylie cry.
"Here," The freckled boy, who was wearing a blue t-shirt that said 'lifeguard' and red swim trunks, stood up and held out his hand. I took it and stood up, but my legs gave way. He held my waist to help steady myself. "Can you walk?" He asked.
"In a bit, I think..." I groaned and he let go of my waist. The crowd of people disappeared, only leaving the freckled boy, Kylie and I.
"You should really be careful where you swim." He threw a towel around my shoulders.
"I will." I smiled slightly. "I'm Anne, by the way."
"I'm Felix." He smiled back.
"Thank you so much for saving me." I said gratefully.
"It's my job." He winked.
"Still," I chuckled. "Let me treat you to dinner tonight. It's the least I can do to repay you."
"Okay." He smiled brightly. He took out a pen from his swim shorts and held my hand upturned. He wrote a phone number on my forearm. "That's my number - call me when and where, and I'll be there."
"Cool, thank you." I wiggled my eyebrows.
"See ya." He made a goodbye gesture and walked away, back to his lifeguarding post.
"You two hit it off." Kylie laughed through her tears. "I'm so sorry I made you do that."
"It wasn't your fault." I smiled. "Now, I need to get ready to take that cute boy out."
