Chapter two

The sun was up and so was willowpaw it had been two moons since the fight with her mother, father, and moonlily and she had been given redcloud as a mentor. Redcloud was stern but if you did what she asked you got on her good side. Redcloud padded into the apprentice's den careful not to tread on anyone's tail. She gently shook willowpaw awake. Willowpaw, it's time to train now, pick out some fresh kill then meet me by the camp entrance. Willowpaw forced her eyes awake, she then stretched and walked into the clearing. Oaksong and moonlily were sharing a large rabbit obviously not inviting anyone to join them, by the looks of it they were in a deep conversation. willowpaw  wondered if it was about her. She headed towards the freshkill pile and picked out a small robin. Willowpaw then headed towards yellowpaw one of her sisters and sat besides her. Hey yellowpaw, how was your first night in the medicine cats den? Yellowpaw responsed calmly, great! Twigpool has been teaching me how to fill up moss and what some plants like catmint and marigold looked like! I'm so excited to continue my training today. Willowpaw purred delighted that yellowpaws training had been going well. Well I got to go, redcloud gonna teach me how to do a hunters crouch! See you later! Yellowpaw smiled then walked into the medicine cats den. Willowpaw waved her away with her tail. She then bounded up to redcloud, hey redcloud am I late? No, your just on time! Oh good, harepaw and Rockfang are here. Willowpaw greeted harepaw with a friendly flick of her tail. Hey willowpaw! Harepaw meowed happily. I'm so happy I'm training with you today! I was so nervous I had to pick out the elders ticks! Willowpaw giggled, and rockfang replied, oh don't worry you will be doing plenty of that! Harepaw snuck a disappointing look at rockfang then padded next to willowpaw as rockfang and redcloud lead them through the forest towards the training site. So how is redcloud? You know as a mentor? Willowpaw smiled, she's a good mentor she's really good and hunting, yesterday she came back to camp with a huge rabbit! Harepaw nodded, I know it fed half the clan! Willowpaw then asked harepaw, so how is rockfang? You know as a mentor? Harepaw swallowed a meow of laughter. Rockfang, hmm good fighter and mentor kinda strict but he's really cool once you get to know him. Willowpaw blinked happily at the report. We're here! Redcloud meowed in happiness. The training hollow was huge  and it had lots of soft tan sand in it so it wouldn't hurt when you fell or were training. Harepaw looked impressed too. Ok so today me and redcloud are going to show you how to pounce on prey, watch. Redcloud you will be the mouse stand over there. Redcloud stood on the opposite side of rockfang. Rockfang got in the hunting crouch  Posistion. Remember to always make sure you belly and tail are close to the ground but don't let them touch it. Willowpaw nodded. Suddenly rockfang pounced on top of redcloud pinning her to the ground redcloud pretended to fall limp. They both got up, ok so is there any questions? Redcloud asked shaking sand out of her pelt. Harepaw raised his paw slightly in the air, I have a question! Rockfang smiled at him, well what's your question? Well what do we do if the prey fights back? Rockfang looked surprised at the strange question. Well, redcloud should I tell him the "hunting story"? Redcloud smiled, yeah it will be good to know in case it happens to him! She added a purr of laughter at the end. Well, Rockfang began. There once was an ancient stormclan warrior named Longtail, he was very swift and was brilliant at hunting and fighting, but one day he was hunting on the early hunting patrol he then caught the scent of a rabbit. Longtail followed it leading to the area the rabbit was in. He then pounced leaping in the air like a bird, the rabbit dodged his attack and when Longtail fell on the ground the rabbit ran back over to Longtail scratching  both of his eyes! Longtail became blind that day, and the loss of seeing haunted him since. Both of the apprentices stared awestruck at the story. What happened after that? Willowpaw questioned. Well, redcloud started he became an elder he couldn't see or fight or hunt with out his eyes to help him. He was such a young warrior too and he gave it up and decided to retire early. Willowpaw frowned, that sounds horrible! Harepaw nodded, how did he die? Rockfang look sad at the question. One day, long ago mousefur one of the other elders along side Longtail wanted her fresh kill, but you see there was a huge tree about to crash and mousefur was very stubborn. And Longtail was her best friend so he ran just as the tree can crashing down but he didn't see the tree! An apprintice named Briarpaw ran to go help him and both of them got crushed by the tree. Longtail died and Briarpaw was paralyzed in her hind quarters. Wow so sad! Harepaw remarked clearly saddened by the story. Willowpaw was amazed! How could an apprintice risk her life to help her clanmate like that? Willowpaw learned two thing story that day, the hunters crouch, and why it's so important to protect you clanmates.
