"I think I can smell the Grand Canyon!"

"You've been living in America for like 11 years and you still know nothing of its geography."

They'd just crossed state lines, and it was now about 9:30pm. Phil had his nose pressed up against the glass, and Dan was still driving. They'd switched about halfway through the drive, but switched back soon after, as Dan decided Phil was not the ideal driver.

"Hey," Phil said. "I'm just as excited to be out of California as you are. I haven't been out of the state in about 3 years! And if I decide I can smell the Grand Canyon, then I can smell the Grand Canyon," he defended himself.

Dan sighed. He looked at the time. He was so tired and 100% not switching with Phil again. "We're stopping at a motel for the night. I need to sleep and you are definitely not driving again."

Phil frowned a bit. "Hey, I'm not that bad at driving!"

"We almost crashed into a stop sign."

"Okay, then, maybe I am a little bit a of a bad driver..." Phil admitted.

"Can you pull up google maps on your phone and search for motels?" Dan asked Phil, who obliged.

Half an hour later, they were pulling into a motel parking lot. It was small, but it looked nice enough. They went inside and went up to the lady at the front desk.

"Go to hell-I mean...hello! How are you on this fine, fine evening!" She was not pleased at all to be there, Dan and Phil didn't have to be sleuths to know that.

"Uh-good...can we have a room?" Phil asked timidly.

"There's only one room left and-"

"We'll take it," Dan said. He just wanted sleep. The lady gave him a "you sure" look but he didn't budge. She shrugged her shoulders and heaved a sigh.

"Here you go," she said, handing Dan the key to the room. "How many nights? You can pay now if you want."

"Sure, just one night." Dan payed for their room, and started walking to it. The key said 238, so they'd have to go to the second floor.

"Thank you," Phil called shyly over their shoulders. The woman behind the counter nearly scoffed. "She was quite rude," Phil murmured to Dan once they got to the stairwell.

"Honestly, it's whatever." He was irritable again, and just wanted to sleep. However, once they got to room 238, Dan saw why the lady gave him that look. He sighed.

"Great." He rolled his eyes. "Just...stay on your side," he said. Which was kind of funny, because a Dan in a good mood wouldn't at all mind sharing a bed with Phil Lester.

"Will do," Phil replied, not willing to mess with Dan.

They both quickly got changed, Dan in the bathroom and Phil by the bed. When they were both ready, they lay on their respective sides of the queen bed, Dan on the left and Phil on the right. However, the bed, being a queen, made it hard for them to be separated from each other.

Dan sighed for like the 40th time in the last 15 minutes.

"I'm sorry."

Phil turned on his side to look at Dan. Dan followed suit. "Why?"

"I've been acting like a total dick for the last hour. That's not fair to you." It had just hit him that he was sharing a bed with Phil, and that had gotten his heart beating a little faster. "I get really grumpy when I'm tired. " he looked down, but looked back up at Phil soon after. Something about his eyes shining in the pale light from the window was entrancing.
