Ch 10

Ch 10 Surprise-Mavis

As the months go by I am able to walk with less pain. Aunt Megan has me start seeing a therapist to help with the nightmares and flashbacks. It's been helping me to mourn and grieve over my parents death,yet work through all the painful memories.I was diagnosed with PTSD,but I am taking a prescribed antidepressant from my therapist to help with the nightmares and flashbacks.Some days are harder than others. At Thanksgiving it was hard without my parents,but Aunt Megan supported me through every moment of it My Grandma Lucy and Aunt Sara and Uncle Leroy with my cousins came over to aunties house. It was nice seeing my biological family. Aunt Megan's and Toby family came over and I got to meet them who are all very sweet.

"Mavis I have a surprise to tell you",She says to as she leads me down the hall. I tap my cane to help me get around. Bella my new guide dog follows us making sure I don't trip or fall.

Her husband and two kids are sitting down on the couch. "I'm so glad to be able to take care of you. It breaks my heart seeing you go through all what you went through emotionally and physically. It's a miracle you survived. I'm sorry your parents aren't here. I know it's been hard without your sight,but I am so proud of you for overcoming all this. Yes you still have a long road ahead of you to go,but we are here for you. We love you so much and want to welcome you into our family. The adoption is official. You are a part of the Smith family. You are now Mavis Joy Smith"She said to me choking up.

"Oh my gosh. Thank you so much. I will never be able to thank you enough for everything you have done for me,"I said to her crying happily as we give each other a hug.

"I won't let anyone hurt you like that again,"Toby said to me as he gave me a hug.

"Thank you.I'm glad,"I replied.

"I'm so excited to have you as a sister,"Tara Aunt Megan's daughter says to me crying as we give each other a hug.

"Me too,"I say crying happily.

"I'm glad to have you as a brother,"I say to Kyle, Aunt Megan's son who is now seven years old, as we gave each other a hug.

I'm glad to have as a sister,"he replied choking up.

"Aunt Megan I have a question. Can I call you mom since you have been a mom to me."

"I would love for you to call me Mom,"She replied as we gave each other a hug.

"I love you Mom,"I say to her.

"I love you too Mavis.You are like a second daughter to me. I will always be there for you,"she replies crying happily.

We all cry a happy cry as we all take turns talking. Bella comes to sit beside me and mom.

"I'm so happy to have her as my guide dog,"I say to them.

"Yes she is a sweetheart like you Hun,"Mom says to me as we all take turns petting her.

"I also have an early Christmas present for you. I want you to close your eyes. No peeking,"Aunt Megan tells me.

"Okay,"I say smiling.

I feel her put on a necklace and do the clasp. "You can open your eyes now,"She tells me.

I open my eyes and it's a beautiful heart locket. It says precious niece and inside it has a photo of me and my parents and one of me and Aunt Megan. I have a little bit of my vision still thankfully.

"It's beautiful. I love it! Thank you,"I tell her giving her another hug crying more happy tears.

"Your welcome sweetheart. I wanted you to have something to remember your parents and know they are always watching over you. Yet that your my niece and I feel so blessed to have you as my niece and will always be there for you,"Aunt Megan says crying happy tears also.
