Mata Parvati is known as Chandi. On the month of Vaisakh and Jyesth (April-June),in Bengal on Tuesday there is a ritual to worship Chandi. Since she is worshipped on Tuesdays(MANGALVAR), she is known as MANGAL-CHANDI and the Tuesdays are known as JAI MANGALVAR. It is believed that by the blessings of Chandi, one can remove all obstacles.
The only thing must be kept in mind, that is the one who does fast on Tuesdays cannot continue due to health problems or other issues, he or she will only have to eat vegetarian food items. He or she cannot consume non-vegetarian foods on Tuesday.
On Tuesdays, Vrat Katha of Devi Chandi is being read or heard by all and is known as CHANDI-MANGAL.
There are two stories of Mata Chandi.
1st:-Kalketu is the protagonist of the story. He was actually Nilambar of Swarglok who was an ardent devotee of Shivji and Maa Chandi. He took birth as Kalketu to the house of a poor hunter. He was married to Phullara who was devoted to her husband. They earned and spent their lifestyle by hunting .
One day Kalketu was late to go to jungle and he found no animal to hunt. Suddenly he found a golden snake(actually the snake was Devi Chandi in disguise). He captured the snake and took it to home. After that Kalketu went to the jungle to collect some woods. Meanwhile Phullara returned to home and went to the room where the snake was kept. She saw a beautiful lady in place of snake. Kalketu returned and told Phullara that he brought a snake, not a lady. The lady smiled and revealed herself as MANGAL-CHANDI DEVI in all her glory. She felt sorry seeing the financial condition of Kalketu. She said,"You have the capability to be a king and Phullara must be your queen. ".
DEVI blessed them and they became wealthy overnight. Kalketu became a king and Phullara became queen. Kalketu believed in impartiality and justice. The servants were happy to get Kalketu and Phullara as king and queen.
Their life changed when BHARU-DATTA (the antagonist) entered Kalketu and Phullara's lives. Initially he revealed himself as a noble and wise person in front of Kalketu but he had the intention of getting his kingdom.
Bharu once put his expensive ring in Kalketu's room and told that he had stolen Bharu's ring.
The servants thought Bharu right and declared Bharu as the king of the kingdom. Kalketu and Phullara went to jail, but they never lose their faith and devotion on DEVI MANGAL-CHANDI.
Soon, Bharu showed his true colours and started disturbing the everyone's lives but Chandi's blessings were there with Phullara. She appeared in-front of Phullara and Kalketu and said, "Children, I know that both of you are innocent and the culprit is Bharu. He has done many mistakes. He tortured my devotees. Now it's time to reveal the truth. "
Everyone in the kingdom came to know about Kalketu and Phullara's innocence. Bharu was jailed and Kalketu and Phullara again became king and queen of the kingdom. Phullara told each and everyone about DEVI MANGAL-CHANDI and her powers and told to do her fast6. Everyone started worshipping Goddess Parvati in the form of Maa MANGAL-CHANDI.
Mahadev and Mata blessed wver6. Kalketu and Phullara lead a peaceful life. After death, they went back to heaven.
2nd Story:-
Ratnamala was apsara of Swarglok and she was born on Earth as KHULLANA.
Dhanapati, who was a rich businessman was an ardent devotee of Mahadev. Khullana's sister Lahana was married to Dhanapati but he became attracted towards Khullana's true devotion. He married her and asked her to take care of his sister and left to Gaur to expand his business. Lahana started torturing Khullana and treated her as maid. One day, she was going to the jungle to collect some woods, she heard of MAA MANGAL-CHANDI and her puja. She started doing her puja. Maa full filled her wishes. Her husband came back. She gave birth to a son and was named SAMANTA. Now again he went to Sinhala for business but before leaving he opposed Chandi puja and challenged her powers. Maa Mangal Chandi became angry and Goddess unleashed her wrath. This led to misfortune of Dhanapati's business. His business became destroyed and he became imprisoned.
All his wealth were taken from him and he started suffering from loss. Khullana again started MANGAL-CHANDI puja and Chandi blessed Khullana. She calmed and ordered Khullana to tell Dhanapati to worship Mangal Chandi along with Lord Shiva. Her husband again became rich and he became free. Samanta married the princess of Sinhala. Dhanapati apologized to Devi Chandi and accepted the truth that Shiv and Chandi are the same. They are ARDHA-NARISWAR and the fact that Mahadev will not become happy unless one worship his SHAKTI. Dhanapati worshipped MANGAL-CHANDI and MANGAL-CHANDI MAA blessed all.
