In Bengalis, we worship Mata Lakshmi on Thursday.
It is mentioned that everyone should recite or hear the Katha(called Pachali) in Bengalis.

There are three stories .....
I will write the three....

1st Story:-

The story begins in Vaikunth Dham where Lord Narayan was resting on SheshNaag and Mata Lakshmi sitting beside him.
Narad Muni came and said,"PRANAM PRABHU. PRANAM MATA." Are you aware what is going on in Mrityulok".

Mata said,"What happened Devarshi? Why are you so tensed?"

Devarshi said,"Mata, all woman are avatars of Lakshmi but the kind of behaviour they are showing now is not expected. See.....
The woman are not respecting elders, they are not doing Puja, they are doing whatever they feel like to do. Mata, you are Jagat Janani. You will have to find a solution to this problem. Otherwise.....".

Mata said,"Devarshi, I can understand the situation. I will surely find the solution".

"Narayan !!!! Narayan!!!! PRANAM PRABHU. PRANAM MATA", said Devarshi and went to travel the world.

Mata is thinking how to solve this problem.

She said,"PRABHU!!!! You have solution to every problem. Narayan!!!! You show me the path".

Narayan said," Hey Pranpriya!!!! Go to the world in disguise and tell everyone to do Lakshmi Puja every Thursday. Then Lakshmi will bless them".

Lakshmi Mata said,"As your wish Prabhu!!!!".

She disguised as an old lady and went to Abanti Nagar. There she saw that the owner of the place - DHANESWAR RAY was very rich , more or less his wealth is equal to Kuber's wealth. He was a very gentle and impartial man. He had seven sons.

After his death, the seven sons demanded their right in property and the daughter in laws started torturing Dhaneswar's wife.
Peace disappeared from there.

So Dhaneswar's wife decided to end her life in a jungle. As soon as she was going to end her life, she heard a voice"WHO ARE YOU?"

The lady saw an old woman who was actually Mata Lakshmi.
Maa said,"Why are you ending your life? Do you know ATMA-HATYA leads to hell?"

The old lady said,"But what is the other option? My life resembles hell....."

Mata said,"Go and perform Maa Lakshmi's Puja. Mata will bless you".
Then Mata took her original form. The lady became extremely happy seeing MahaLakshmi.

The lady went home and told every one to do MahaLakshmi Puja every Thursday.

Everyone performed MahaLakshmi Puja.
Mata blessed everyone. The lady lived with her family in peace .

2ND STORY:-

A woman who was extremely poor, heard of Mata Lakshmi Vrat . She became pleased
after hearing the vrat and started performing the vrat. Maa Blessed them and they become extremely rich and the couple were blessed with son.

3RD STORY:-

A rich businessman who was the owner of many ships once saw women performing Maa Lakshmi's puja.
The businessman said,"What is the use of Lakshmi Puja? Wealthy man will always be wealthy and poor will always remain poor".

Lakshmi Mata became angry hearing the words of man. She took away all his wealth and converted him into a beggar. He lost all the ships. He lost the support of his brothers, No body trusted him.
After that he understood his mistake and started doing Lakshmi Stuti,

"HEY MAA!!!! YOU ARE JAGAT JANANI
YOU ARE RAJLAKSHMI
YOU ARE TULSI, GANGA, MOTHER OF VEDAS

YOU WERE SITA IN TRETA YUG , RADHA IN DWAPAR YUG
YOU ARE GRIHA-LAKSHMI
YOU ARE THE POWER OF SHRI HARI VISHNU
YOU ARE VAIKUNTH-SWAMINI
YOU ARE JAGAT MATA
PLEASE FORGIVE ME"

The businessman went to his house and told all the women to perform Maa Lakshmi Puja.

Mata Lakshmi became happy and returned all his wealth and ships.

Every Devta including Tridevs, Mata Saraswati and Mata Annapurna and Mata Ganga praised Mata Lakshmi.
