BIPADTARINI - Maa Bipadtarini is a form of Goddess Parvati. Bipad means obstacles and Tarini means remover. So she is considered remover of obstacles. She is worshipped all throughout India especially in Bengal. She is worshipped on Tuesdays and Saturdays in ASHAD-NAVARATRI.
She likes the number 13. So 13 types of fruits are required in the puja along with MOONG DAL and banana. The women and men who keeps fast has to eat 13 puris with vegetables in the light. The person unable to eat 13 puris makes 13 pieces of the number of puris they can eat. A special sacred dhaga of Maa Bipadtarini is worn in hand by all.
I am writing Maa Bipadtarini story. The story stares MALLABHUM kingdom and of a pious king. The king was a KSHATRIYA and hated non-vegetarian foods and in his kingdom no one ate that.
The queen of the kingdom had a friend who belonged to lower caste and ate meat. One day the queen had a desire to see and touch meat for once as she had never touched or saw it before. The queen did not had any bad intentions. She just wanted to see once to know what is it.
The friend feared of the wrath of the king.
The queen requested her friend again and again and at last the friend gave her a piece of meat. The queen came with that to the kingdom. She took the piece and wrapped it over her Saree so that the king does not see or become aware of that.
The king thought what the queen is wrapping over her Saree as if she is wrapping something wrong. The king went to the queen and asked the queen to show the thing.
The queen started becoming afraid and started chanting MAA BIPADTARINI'S NAME again and again. The king found a hibiscus flower in the Saree. The queen was surprised to see a red hibiscus flower instead of meat.
She thanked Goddess Bipadtarini, realised her mistakes and initiated BIPADTARINI Puja and told everyone to do her Puja.
