[Chapter 8]

One by one Jupiter opens each present. I got her a Jacqueline Wilson book, paper and colourful pens, some new clothes and another phone cover. I also got her a jigsaw.

"I'm sorry it's not much" I look down, feeling like I didn't get enough.

"Ross, I am thankful for what you got me. I assure you of that. And without realising it. We also have company. So, thank you Laura for being here" Laura looks at me with a shocked expression.

"Jupiter, I love being here. I am seriously honoured" Jupiter stands up, walks over to Laura and hugs her tightly.

"Thanks Laura, you also made Ross happy too" I feel my cheeks go bright red from embarrassment.

"Well, I am glad to make you both happy" I smile at Laura for being so kind to ignore my redness.

"Listen, how about we go out and Ross, you can pick another thing out for Jupiter, and I'll pick something up for you too! Count it as a gift from me?" Jupiter smiled so big, it'd made my heart burst.

"Can we bro?" Laura must be an angel sent from above.

"Yeah, of course we can. But the weather is still just as bad as yesterday. We can take the car but it'll take a little longer to get there.

"That's all right. Isn't it Jupiter" My sister nods and gets up, running back upstairs.

"You don't have to do this Laura honestly" Laura shakes her head, her eyes screaming with glee.

"Honestly, Ross. It is fine, you's took me in for the night and you's allowed me to intrude on your sister's day. I want to pay you's back, by letting you pick one more gift up for your sister. And I want to get her something too. What's her favourite fast food place?" I think for a moment and I click.

"McDonald's, we once as kids went to Europe and ate a meal there and she loved it. They built one here and she has been obsessed with it, whenever we can afford it. We go!" I look down once more.

"We haven't been for a few months" Laura walks over to me and places her hands on my shoulder.

"Well, I'll help you make up for that" I look at Laura, smiling to thank her.

"Well, might as-well get ready then" She nods, getting up to do the same.

Waiting for Jupiter to come down, the mail arrives and I see 2 birthday cards.

One from our mother and the other from an Aunt we haven't seen in years, but because she knows we haven't moved from here. Sends one anyway.

I check to see if Jupiter has came downstairs and quietly place the birthday card from mum away in the drawer.

"Ross, why are you doing that?" I lifted my finger to my mouth, gesturing her to stay quite. I gently push her back into the kitchen, out of ear range.

"Every since our mum left, Jupiter told me she didn't want anything to do with her anymore. Basically she mentally disowned our mother because her runaway act" Locking the drawer with a key that is with the rest of my keys.

"That is why they remain in this drawer, out of eye sight" Laura nods understanding.

Laura, Jupiter and I climb into the car, starting the engine I reverse out the driveway.

"I'm gonna take this drive slow, I haven't gripped the tires yet. I wasn't expecting this weather to hit us" I turn the radio on, weather news as per usual.

"So, Laura what's the plan?" I look at Laura, wondering if she is gonna tell Jupiter.

"Well, either you can wait and be surprised or I can ruin it for you the now?" Jupiter does think for a moment. She leans back into the seats and says nothing.

"I guess that is her answer then" I laugh gently. As does Laura.

"I'll wait. Knowing I have my brother and now our new accompanied friend with me, it'll be an amazing birthday" I smile at my sister's words, I'm glad she is enjoying this day.

"Well, our first stop is the shopping market once again" It actually didn't take us long to get there, the snow on the roads were almost sheer thin because of other cars before us.
