Sarafina's POV

The first day of classes has been fine so far. Hermione also has seven lessons but instead of Care of Magical creatures, she has Ancient Runes. Though I am excited for Care of magical creatures this afternoon. Hagrid said he had unicorn foals we can help raise. I can also hello to Buckbeak before class.

Anyway Defense Against the Dark Arts was interesting. Snape has a real passion for the subject. He then had us practice doing non-verbal spells.  He had us practice disarming each other in pairs. I was with Draco and I think he went easy on me. Harry got detention though for shouting 'protego' when Snape tried to demonstrate with him.

Now it's time for Potions and there are only about a dozen of us in class. We got out our scales, potion kits and text book. Harry and Ron had to borrow from the cupboard. As they didn't buy the book or bring their potion making equipment.

"I've prepared a few potions for you to have a look at, just out of interest, you know. These are the kind of thing you ought to be able to make after completing your N.E.W.T.s. You ought to have heard of 'em, even if you haven't made 'em yet. Anyone tell me what this one is?" he asks pointing to the clear potion.

Hermione and I raise out hands. Slughorn points to me. "It's Veritaserum, a colorless, odorless potion that forces the drinker to tell the truth" I explain.

"Very good, Miss...?" he says.

"Weasley sir" I tell him smiling.

"Ah yes, Professor Snape spoke highly of you and as did your sister" he states. I smile sheepishly. "Now, can anyone tell  me what this is?" he asks. Pointing to the slow bubbling mud like potion. This time he called on Hermione.

"It's Polyjuice Potion, sir" she states.

"Excellent" he says smiling as I reminisce about when Hermione and I made it in second year. "Now this one" he says.

"Amortentia" Hermione and I say together.

"It is indeed. It seems almost foolish to ask, but I assume you know what it does?" he asks us.

"It's the worlds most powerful love potion" Hermione states.

"The steam rising in characteristic spirals, and it's supposed to smell differently to each of according to what attracts us" I explain. I smell it and smile. I smell books, the potion store room and Draco's cologne.

"I can smell freshly mowed grass and new parchment and..." Hermione trails off blushing slightly.

"May I ask your name, my dear?" Professor Slughorn asks her.

"Hermione Granger, sir" she tells him.

"Granger? Granger? Can you possibly be related to Hector Dagworth-Granger, who founded the Most Extraordinary Society of Potioneers?" he asks her.

"No. I don't think so, sir. I'm Muggle-born, you see" Hermione explains.

"Oho! One of my best friends is Muggle-born, and she's the best in our year! I'm assuming this is the very friend of whom you spoke, Harry?" Slughorn asks Harry.

"Yes sir" Harry says.

"Well, well, take twenty well-earned points for Gryffindor, Miss Granger. And you to Miss Weasley" Slughorn tells us girls.

"Did you really tell him I'm the best in the year? Oh, Harry" Hermione whispers.

"Oh I'm going to beat you this year Hermione" I tell her.

"Well, what's so impressive about that? You are the best in the year - I'd've told him so if he'd asked me" Ron states. I hit him across the head. He shots me a glare while I smile innocently.

"It is time for us to start work" Slughorn states.

"Sir, you haven't told us what's in this one" Ernie tells him. Pointing to the small black cauldron. The potion within was splashing about merrily; it was the color of molten gold, and large drops were leaping like goldfish above the surface, though not a particle had spilled.

"Well, that one, ladies and gentlemen, is a most curious little potion called Felix Felicis. I take it, that you know what Felix Felicis does, Miss Granger? Miss Weasley?" Slughorn asks us.

"It's liquid luck" Hermione states.

"It makes you lucky" I add.

"Quite right, take another ten points for Gryffindor" he tells us. "I shall be offering as a prize in this lesson" he tells the class. "One tiny bottle of Felix Felicis" he says showing us a minuscule bottle. "Enough for twelve hours' luck. From dawn till dusk, you will be lucky in everything you attempt" he explains.

"So, how are you to win this fabulous prize? Well, by turning to page ten of Advanced Potion Making. We have a little over an hour left to us, which should be time for you to make a decent attempt at the Draught of Living Death. I know it is more complex than anything you have attempted before, and I do not expect a perfect potion from anybody. The person who does best, however, will win little Felix here. Off you go" he tells us.

(End of class)

Slughorn is testing all of our potions. He's test everyones but Harry's and mine. He looks at both and drops a life in each. "More lord, they're both perfect!" he exclaims. I look at Harry shocked how had he made a perfect potion. Was he copying my alterations to the recipe? "Well here you both are" he says handing us a bottle each of Felix Felicis each.

"How did you do that?" Ron asks Harry as we leave the classroom.

"Yes, how?" I ask him.

"Just got lucky I guess" he says shrugging. I roll my eyes and go to lunch. Where I sit with Draco, Pansy, Blaise and Theo at the Slytherin Table.
