"hey, fella! you alive?"
the warm rays of firelight softly stroked my cheeks. sounds of crickets chirping and tropical scent of Rhyan sea salt and roasted cigars burned tiny grains rough black sand. my eyes slowly opened to the world. again.
upon me were a blond with cerulean eyes and a gentleman with curly locks.
"who are you two... and where am I?"
"this Persi can speak English!" the blond gasped with surprise.
"let we just get this straight, sailor...we found your body floating on a broken piece of a wooden raft from the storm last night." the man with curly locks said. "I guess you could say you're lost at sea. like us."
"lost...? at sea?" I nervously murmured.
I quickly reached for my dried out pockets. everything was gone, but what remained was a silver locket embroidered with rubies and sapphires.
"thank god it's still here..." what a relief...
"well, you should be glad. that storm was devastating." the blond spoke softly with an old fashioned English accent. "it flushed almost everything from us."
"who are you guys? you don't look like you're from Rhye at all..." I brushed my hands onto my dark and messy hair, removing grains of Rhyan black sand.
"we're just a couple English man who sought for an adventure. but our capt' Stafell left us on this one hell of an island." curly-haired said. "he took new men aboard and sailed away..."
"that sounds horrible!" I gasped. "why would he do that to his mates?"
"because he forgot about us right after he recruited those men." the man with curly hair sighed. the blond lay his head on the older man's shoulder with anger.
"he left our arses with a broken sail! can't you believe it, Brian?" the blond sighed.
"it doesn't really matter to us anymore, Roger. at least we still have enough food for the journey and the military wouldn't scavenge for us...yet." Brian rolled his eyes at the blond.
"hold on... are you guys..." I doubted with my mouth open wide.
"nice guess. we're the robbers of the sea. or pirates for short." Roger smirked and took two sharp daggers out of his pockets, aiming at me. "no, Roger." Brian sighed and grabbed the knives from Roger's hands, slipping them away as quick as possible. I felt myself having a pulse attack for a second.
"why not? how the fuck should we put our trust onto this guy? he's just some Persian sailor that knows how to speak our language!" the blond groaned with anger. "what did he ever do to us? perhaps he'll be useful. he can help us get back on track." Brian tapped his clogs. "By the way, mister Persian sailor, can you tell us about yourself?"
"here we go again," the blond pouted.
"of course,"
two days ago...
"Oh Bulsara, my love. promise me you'll be back home by the next seven days..." Lady Austin whispered and hugged the skinny body of mine. she was a British exchange student that I've known for years and my fiance.
she was the love of my life.
"I surely will, darling." I replied warmingly. "by the time I get back, I promise that we'll have a wedding." I show her a small velvet box and opened it. inside holds a gorgeous diamond ring.
"of course we will," she burst out with tears and wore the magnificent ring on her finger. "please make this happen..."
"yes, my darling. for a dozen red roses and ten thousand years. I promise.." I hugged Mary with full of hope.
"Farrokh... stay safe for the journey, my son." my mother taps my shoulders and gave me a soft kiss on the cheek.
"yes mama," I spoke gently.
"are you sure about this trip, Farrokh? it doesn't sound very safe for me if I were you." my father sighed with disbelief.
"don't worry, papa. as long as the skies stay clear, I and my crew will be fine." I explained.
I hugged him and my sister for one last time and left on the royal navy boat. at last. I've become a faithful sailor, working for a great kingdom and empire.
it was the last time my shoes have made contact with the rich soil of Rhye.
when Mary and everyone on the shore was lost in sight, the wind suddenly got stronger. waves clasp onto each other more aggressively each minute, and the blue skies went pitch black.
everybody was panicking. people were felling overboard, drowning in the waves and swimming for their lives.
"and here I am. now I'm here."
Roger was already snoring, laying on Brian's broad shoulders.
"that's just..." Brian yawned. "amazing storytelling. and we're so sorry for your loss,"
"I really appreciated you for listening to my pathetic little journey," I sighed. "but by tomorrow, the skies will clear and the sun will shine again .we'll be alright won't we?"
"pretty much." he blinked his eyes twice and soon fell asleep with his blond friend.
I smiled a little and left the two alone with the campfire.
looking at the stars and constellations, I wonder... oh how morbid my fate will lead me, to face a journey full of laughter and tears?
