The Doctor paced around the cafè, waiting for something. He fiddled with his long scarf. He played with a yellow yoyo.
A young girl rushed in, her face hidden by light brown hair. She wore a black jacket with many patches, a too-big pair of jeans, and a baggy white t-shirt. A backpack was slung over her small shoulders. Not watching where she was going, she bumped into the tall Timelord. She let of an "oomph!" as she fell to the ground, and hissed when she hit her bruised ribs.
"Hello!" The tall man said to her. He had a deep voice that could have been intimidating, but instead, sounded warm and kind. "Are you alright? Did I startle you?"
The girl's eyes widened. "Don't hurt me! I will fight back!" She reached for the baseball bat in her knapsack. She was not helpless. She had her baseball bat, and her trusty Nitro-9. Still, she was scared.
The Doctor stared at her, concerned. The girl's face was dirty and bruised, she walked with an awkward limp, and he had noticed her grimace when she fell.
"Don't be afraid. I'm the Doctor! What's your name?"
The girl sighed. "Ace. My name is Ace."
The Doctor grinned a Cheshire Cat grin. "Ace. What a nice name, Ace. Would you like a jelly baby?" He held out a white bag of sweets to her.
Smiling, Ace took one. 'I like this strange man.' She thought. The last person that she had met that was this nice was one of her grammar school teachers. Mr.Smith, she realized, had the face of an 11 year old. But he was kind to her, gave her sweets, and was concerned for her. Then, she got bigger, that was the trigger. (Do you get the reference?) Teachers became meaner and less caring, her mother became crueler.
"Would you like to see the universe?" The curly haired man asked her.
Ace nodded.
Later, Ace had been exhausted, but was carried into the medbay. She had thrown a few punches tiredly, knocking a few items over, but had calmed down. Now, she slept, peacefully, at last. The Doctor smiled as he placed a blanket over the clever young girl.
Rest well, young warrior.
