The mission, according to the briefing you had gotten earlier today should be, in fact, fairly simple.
Get inside the building, destroy the server systems, and get out.
It turned out however, there were more enemies than expected, and not to forget to mention this, you had been sent out with only two other people for this mission.
Soldier76 and Mercy.
The continuous stream of enemy soldiers was definitely taking its toll on the three of you, you told Mercy to find cover, just as a bomb exploded, and Soldier76 pushed you out of the way, debris falling between you and your team.
"Are you alright?" you heard a concerned Mercy yell out from the other side.
"Yeah! I'll search for a way around! try to stay with 76!" you yelled back, hoping they, and you, wouldn't get into trouble.
You looked around, trying to find a way out of the alley you were currently in, spotting a low roof, you used a wall-climb to get on top of it.
"Y/n, do you read me?" Soldier76's gruff voice rang in your earpiece.
"Yeah, I hear you." You answered, taking another look around to see if there were any other rooftops or alleyways you could use to get to the other side of the debris.
"Mercy and I are going to relocate to the plaza, reinforcements are underway, we'll meet you there."
"Roger that, try to stay covered, I believe they have a sniper."
After a few minutes of navigating the alleyways and rooftops, you reached the plaza, just as Soldier76's healing circle depleted, Mercy was on the other side of the plaza, healing a young man who had been caught in the crossfire.
you noticed a red dot on Soldier76's back, reacting on instinct you pushed him out of the way, a sharp pain going through your shoulder as you did so.
"Y/n!!" You heard Soldier76 yell, as you dropped to one knee, holding your shoulder, blood seeping through your fingers, coating your arm slightly.
You heard Soldier76 call for Mercy as the ground rose to meet you.
before that could happen, you felt a pair of hands steadying you, before you were picked up.
"Mercy, time to seek cover, y/n got hit, we should wait for the reinforcements!"
You let your head rest against his shoulder, vision starting to swim.
"76?" He looked down at you, as he was walking to an empty spot inside some building you didn't recognize.
"yeah?" You smiled at him.
"Don't worry, Mercy'll patch you up. " You gave a weak nod, whispering a soft "I love you."
you heard him reply something as you blacked out, but you couldn't hear what.
-- A few days later----
"Hey, 76?" You looked over to your right, where the gruff soldier was sitting on a chair.
He hadn't left your side for longer than a few minutes at most.
"Yeah?" he looked up from the report he was reading.
"You said something before I blacked out, but I couldn't make out what... Could you say it again?"
He came to sit beside you, report forgotten on the chair he'd been sitting on.
He turned to you, holding your hand.
"I love you y/n."
----- extended ending-----
"He finally told them?" Ana asked Mercy, who almost squealed at what she had overheard earlier.
"Ja! it's so adorable!" She said, clutching her clipboard to her chest.
Ana gave a soft smile, before going back to the briefing room to spread the good news.
