Dan had slept in Phil's bed last night. He lain there, at least. What he really was trying to do was preserve Phil in any way possible, breathing in his scent as he lie buried in his sheets.
When it was light out, he got out of bed.
He didn't fix his hair. He let it stay curly and loose and left his pyjamas on. He had no one to look good for anymore.
He turned on their camera and looked through the pictures Louise had taken, stopping at the very last one. The moment they had their foreheads pressed together and the sunset was ignored by both of them.
He clicked record. Their fans deserved to know.
"Phil is... dead," he choked out, his throat constricted. He swallowed. "And... I won't be making videos anymore. This is my last one. And I-" he closed his eyes, his breath snagging. "I don't want to live in a world without my Phil. So... I guess this is goodbye, Internet."
He clicked off the camera and sat in silence for a moment, then put the video on his laptop to upload. He didn't bother to edit it.
His blood ran slow and his body felt heavy as the video started uploading.
He got up, feeling determined as he took the stairs up to the roof of their apartment.
Phil had died here. This was the place he had left the world, and Dan with it.
Dan walked to the edge of the roof and tried to position himself in the same spot Phil was standing before he fell.
Looking down at the ground, he felt a numbing calmness. He wasn't backing out.
Stepping closer to the edge, he looked at the morning sky.
"I love you, Phil." He felt a tear escape from his eye. He didn't believe in heaven, but he had to believe there was some way they could be together.
He closed his eyes and stepped off, feeling his stomach in his throat.
