I was jerked forward by a force unrivaled to my own as screams penetrated the air around me. My breathing stopped for a second and I couldn't make sense of the situation.
I felt my head smash against the metal pole and someone's limp body lean against my own. Holding on tightly to the seat I tasted pennies, iron, I was bleeding. My head was spinning, in fact my whole body was, everyone in the bus was tumbling and turning like troubled people in the quiet earth.
The sound of glass breaking sent chills through my spine and the abrupt stop of the vehicle made my heart stop beating and my eyes start registering the disaster before me.
"Wake up Sammy, please wake up honey!" a young mother sobbed as her child lay unconscious in her arms.
The driver's head was planted into the steering wheel as the rest groaned in agony. I couldn't bear the sight, my breathing was ragged and I made my way passed the bodies sprawled everywhere in a pool of blood.
As soon as I had stepped out, the cold rain striking my skin made me shiver whilst it washed off the blood. I inspected my injuries. I wasn't badly injured, just a few cuts, bruises, and a rather large cut on my lip.
I trotted into the dense forest in order to get some relief from the weather when I heard sirens everywhere. The ambulance and police must've arrived. Turning back, I heard voices, they appeared to be agitated and in shock.
Who else would be here at such a time? Being as curious as a lynx I watched each one disappear underground and waited two minutes before climbing down the trap door and following them.
The underground tunnels were much longer than I presumed. I followed the voices but they soon disappeared and I started to panic. Retracing my steps as best as I could I clambered out of one exit and I was met with an eerie darkness.
Sighing in relief and glad to be back in the forest, I stood up and it was then when I noticed that the rain had fully stopped and I was walking on wooden planks as opposed to the soil. The leak in the roof kept dripping ominously, like a silent spectator whose presence was unwelcome.
I spun around at the sound of footsteps when I was met with a tall figure, his outline was visible due to the enormous antique styled windows through which lightning flashed and illuminated his sharp jaw and gray eyes.
He wore a hood and I barely caught his features when I felt a sharp pain in the side of my head, I felt myself falling, it was déjà vu. The sound of glass ricocheted off of the empty room and I slipped into blackness.
Unknown POV:
"It was either that or we kidnap her, boss." The new guy replied as he dropped the metal bat on the floor and watched it roll away.
I shook my head, he didn't have to go to such measures, we could've just injected her with benzodiazepines and alcohol that would enforce amnesia and tomorrow she could continue on with her life and forget having trespassed onto our territory.
"How do you know she's not a spy?" he asked skeptically.
"The guys have come back and said the police are only here because of some bus accident and it was a false alarm," I exhaled and picked up her phone. "I'm guessing she's just another unlucky victim of the crash."
Ricardo had been eavesdropping, the usual, and started injecting her with the memory erasing drugs whilst I tried finding out where she lived with the help of her phone.
"Victoria Pierce," I mused. "leader of West High's school paper team, aspiring journalist and marine biologist."
"That's adorable!" Kevin burst out laughing from the door frame.
"She has a curious side to her," I paced around slowly. "I saw the way she looked at me, she didn't step back like they always do. She was different, she had a firm composure, for that brief second that our eyes met, it was almost as if they were defying mine."
"Yes, I do sense a fiesty aura, a little bit of buffalo with chimpanzee." Caleb, the new guy, whispered as his hands floated above her head and I looked at him ridiculously. Whose suggestion was it to hire this guy again? Nevertheless, he makes a great sharpshooter.
"Just clean her cuts and take her back to this address. Make sure she doesn't remember a thing." I handed the phone to Ricardo, my right hand man, as I walked away into the basement.
'Victoria Pierce' I whispered to myself, this is the first time that somebody has broken in innocently. Maybe she really is a spy? No, something about her was different and it's quite a shame I won't get to find out what it is exactly, but maybe that's for the best, her curiosity could potentially disturb the grand scheme that took years and years to plan.
