* Alana's POV *

I woke up to Kay in our room grabbing August out of bed. I turned over as she waved while Chay stood in the doorway. August got up following his nieces out while Sheila appeared by my side of the bed.
Sheila: Goodmorning Alana. Time to get up.

She walked out with that being said as I sat up. Today, Sheila was having a cookout so most of August's family & old friends would be here. I stood up walking into the bathroom taking a shower, brushing my teeth, & throwing my hair up into a bun. I put on my cheetah print blouse, hot pink shorts, & brown sandals walking down. The girls & August were eating breakfast & there was a plate for me sitting on the table. I sat down taking a bite of my pancakes.
August: Ma, you still got it.
Sheila: Thanks baby.

The girls started playing at the table.
Sheila: Y'all go wash up & get dressed.

They jumped up from the table & started running upstairs.
Sheila: & stop that running in the house!

She started laughing while she finished washing the dishes.
Sheila: Those girls...
August: What we gone do with em ma?
Sheila: I don't even know.

I smiled as I took a sip of OJ.

* August's POV *

I was glad that ma & Alana were getting along. I don't even think she caught on to the ring YET.

* Alana's POV *

August was playing out in the yard with the girls as I watched through the window before walking into the kitchen.
Alana: Need help with anything?
Sheila: You can wash those greens for me & put them in the bowl for me.
Alana: Okay.

I grabbed the greens walking over to the sink.
Sheila: Karlie this is Alana. Alana this is Karlie.
Alana: Hey...
Karlie: Hey... So your August's girlfriend?
Sheila: His fiancée.

I just stared since I hadn't thought she already knew, guess it didn't take her long to notice the ring on my finger.
Karlie: Aw, fiancée? That's good. Congrats.
Alana: Thank you.

I said with a smile on my face.
Alana: You're a family friend?
Karlie: Nope. Those 3 little girls are mine.
Alana: Aw, they are adorable!
Karlie: Thanks girl. My whole life... You have any?
Alana: Oh no...

I said placing the greens into a bowl.
Sheila: It won't be long before they walk in here with some more grandkids for me.
Karlie: What y'all waiting for?
Alana: I don't know.

I walked over sitting the bowl on the counter.
Sheila: Place those rolls in the oven for me.

I grabbed the pan of rolls putting them in the oven.
Alana: You're engaged to?

I said referring to the ring on Karlie's finger. She smiled which suddenly faded away.
Karlie: Yes.

August walked in with Kay on his back.
August: Look at all my favorite women sitting in this kitchen!

He walked over putting a kiss on his mom & Karlie's cheek.
Sheila: Boy stop flattering me!

She said laughing. August walked over & gave me a kiss.
Sheila: Congrats on the engagement.
August: Oh you told them?

I shook my head.
Sheila: Hard not to notice the rock on her finger, it's pretty.
August: We was gone tell you ma.
Sheila: It's okay..
Karlie: We was talking about some babies August.
August: Oh forreal?
Karlie: Yeah, we wanna know when you gone give us some to keep around here?
August: Whenever Alana ready.

He said smiling & looking down at me.
Karlie: Hopefully soon.

Kay grabbed August's hand.
Kay: Come on Uncle Aug!
August: Taking the girls out for ice cream, be back later.
Sheila: Alright, y'all be careful.
Karlie: Have fun.

I sat down at the kitchen table.
Karlie: So where you from Alana?
Alana: Um, Alabama.
Karlie: That's where y'all met?
Alana: Oh no, we met in Atlanta.
Karlie: Oh okay. Love at first sight?

She smiled while asking me.
Alana: Well, I thought he was fine when I seen him the first time. He gave me a ride home one night from work & it went from there.
Karlie: Aww.. Me & Mel were together while we were small.

She pulled out a prom picture of her & Mel showing it to me.
Karlie: I was 4 months pregnant.
Alana: Aww..
Karlie: Yeah, that's my baby.

She said with a huge smile on her face.
Karlie: He proposed 2 weeks before he passed.

She said looking down at her ring as tears filled her eyes.
Alana: I'm sorry.

A tear filled my eye & Sheila threw the knife down before walking out the kitchen.
Karlie: She still takes it a little harder than the rest of us.

I nodded my head while Karlie walked out to check on her.
