The Dollmaker | Chapter 6
The redhead reached out his palm and crushed it into a fist causing another scream to escape from the Genin. Sarah sensed another group of Genin hiding behind the bush. The fear was clear as day in the atmosphere. She observed the redhead from a distance as she watched the weak groups being crushed one by one. Not that she cared. In fact, she didn't care about anything other than completing the mission assigned to her.
Just as the last person dropped to the ground after the blood rain, the redhead glanced at Sarah, meeting her eyes directly. She responded to his stare by jumping down soundlessly as possible from the branch she was sitting on.
Gaara's siblings watched the Doll with a worried expression. What a waste it would be to kill such a beautiful teen.
The one-tail host reached his hand out in her direction, controlling sand out of his gourd. His sand crawled onto her legs, almost in a caressing movement, but she remained motionless staring directly into his greengreen eyes. There was beauty in that moment.
"Are you afraid?" Gaara eyes widened ever so slightly in a bewildering state. His siblings and the Genins behind the bushes were equally stunned, if not more.
How disappointing. It seems the Doll is a bit unstable. Too bad; she would have made a great individual. If anything, she should be the one afraid. Gaara had her in the palm of his hand. Literally.
Sarah wasn't sure why she asked him such a question, but if she had to answer it would be because that cold, dead look in those sea-green eyes reminded her of a man she once knew. He was one of the few men in the shinobi world Sarah acknowledged enough to remember his name. She couldn't help but want to feel grief for the redhead yet, it wouldn't be sympathy. It would be empathy. Once upon a time, she had the same look in her eyes, but it was less intense than his. She can handle numbness. She wasn't meant to feel anything. A mere tool deserves no emotions. But this boy is different; he's human.
Gaara stared at her with a strange look she couldn't quite pinpoint.
"You're not as evil as you think, one-tail host." Her soft voice caused him to shudder, his eyes widened slightly while his siblings looked shocked.
'How did she know?!'
She stepped closer, resulting in an unconscious step back from Gaara; he was afraid of this. Which was bizarre considering his sand still lingers around her ankles.
Those dark orbs are seeing through him like he's nothing but thin glass.
Her hand lifted to caress his cheek, "You are a silly human; killing doesn't make one a monster nor a villain."It makes them a fearful human who feels threatened by others.
Sarah leaned closer causing the redhead's breath to hitch, "I shall show you what it means to be a real monster someday." She whispered in his ears. With those words, she vanished.
Gaara stared at the place she was once standing again—he seems to be doing a lot with her—and lifted a trembling hand to his right cheek. He could still feel the soft sensation of her palm lingering on his cheek.
It was surprising... cold but it was enough to warm him up.

It didn't take long for the two teenagers to find the Earth scroll, or rather, it didn't take long for them to get rid of ineffectual shinobis.
