The morning sun blinded me as I walked out the door. As I blinked to adjust my eyes my mother handed me my backpack.
"Good luck honey, I know you'll do great."
I smiled as she ruffled my hair. My mom was a great person, caring for me while still holding a full time job. Granted I was 15 and could be left alone at home without burning the place to the ground. Oh, guess I should explain eh? I'm Ace Aeddan, I live with my mother in Charlotston and I'm about to enroll in EM Academy the finest hero school in the area. I've got a kick ass quirk called "shadow wraps" that's a mixture of my father's "shadow flame" quirk and my mom's "bandage" quirk. It's an emitter/mutant type quirk. The mutant part is that my arms and feet are similar to dinosaur claws, I save a bunch on shoes since I only need slipper like bottoms for my feet, and the emitter part is that I can shoot out flames from my hands but also light the bandages on my forearms and lower legs on fire and then harden them to have better close combat abilities. The drawback however, is that using my quirk for too long makes me go insane. Luckily, my mother's colleague has created a special mask I can wear that filters the air I breath to help regulate my sanity and insanity. I've got 3 great friends, Amber, Lucas, and Heidi. This, this is gonna be the story of how I became a great hero. As I rode the train into the main part of the city I caught a glimpse of a pro fighting a villain. My father was the number 2 pro in America, but was the top hero in the whole state, when he was still here. When I arrived at the station I was greeted by my friends.
"Ace, did you eat breakfast or skip it like your normally do?" Amber asked immediately as I walked over.
She was a sweet and caring person, honestly that's what caused my affection towards her. I couldn't work up the courage to confess but I had strong feelings for Amber. She also has a pretty cool quirk, "Thorns" she can launch thorns from her body, but at the cost of the water in her system so she's always got a water bottle handy.
"I think you answered that yourself." I responded with a wink.
"Honestly you need to eat breakfast dammit, you'll run out of energy!" She lectured me while pulling out a granola bar and handing it to me.
I ate it as we walked towards EMA. When we got to the front gates they handed each of us a card. The card contained information on us and where our entrance exam would be held, what was odd was that each card had a different facility where the exam would be held at.
"This makes sense, that way we can't help each other in terms of the fighting." Heidi explained.
She was the smartest one out of all of us, also the tallest. She was three inches taller than me and it kinda pissed me off being the second tallest. As we walked through the main doors into the auditorium we were greeted by a man who looked robotic.
"Welcome students, I am Principal Omnius, but you can call me Mr. Omni. Today is the day you take the entrance exam to get into EM Academy. I could bore you with a history lesson about the school, but I feel you just want to learn what you'll have to do and get out there and fight." With that the whole auditorium erupted in approval. "In that case I'll make it simple, you'll be fighting animatronic beasts, there's 2, 4, 6, and 8 point beasts. At every battleground there will also be a 20 point behemoth of an enemy released in the final moments, you can try to take it on but I advise against it." He explained all of this within 10 minutes and we were loaded onto busses and shipped off to the battlegrounds we'd be fighting on.
