The clock read 2:00 AM, and she was still wide awake.

Kaycee opened her Instagram, finding nothing else better to do. Immediately, she was met by hundreds of unread notifications. Since World of Dance, she turned off her social media notifications because if she didn't, her phone would not stop pinging.

Clicking on her Notifications tab, she noticed that she was tagged in reposts of the same video over and over again. It appeared to be an IG Story. Curious, she moved over to the Paper Airplane icon on the upper right of her screen. Sure enough, Alex had tagged her in an IG story.

They were in the airplane, starting with Josh talking to the camera about their upcoming show. Then Alex switched over to Kaycee, zooming in on her. Her head was tucked neatly under Sean's, resting on his shoulder. Her eyes were visibly droppy, but she gave them a small smile, before closing her eyes for good.

That part, Kaycee still remembered. But the next one, she didn't.

The camera lingered a little while longer on them, capturing how she snuggled closer to Sean, tilting her head deeper into his neck. He frowned in his sleep as she shifted her left arm, trying to get a more comfortable position.

Kaycee in present time gasped as she watched herself frown, lift Sean's arm up and over the arm rest, then link her arm through his. She settled her hand on his bicep, while Sean's arm lay extended on her lap. Still asleep, he instinctively squeezed her knee before resting his hand on it. With that the pair, lay still and the video cut.

Kaycee replayed the story again and again, trying to supress the ache eating away at her chest. She felt hollow and exhausted. It had only ben a day, but there was a Sean-shaped hole in her lungs that made it hard to breathe.

I miss you.

After a while, she gave up any hope of getting a restful sleep, so she quietly padded out of her room. She cracked the door open, careful not to make a sound, afraid that she might wake up the slumbering boy just outside her door.

Her efforts were for nothing though, because Sean was awake too. He was propped up on his pillows, watching something on his phone. He looked up at her momentarily, eyes blank and face neutral, before turning his attention back to his phone. Kaycee swallowed the lump forming in her throat and kept walking.

Building her courage, Kaycee poured herself a glass of water and chugged it down like it was the last thing she would ever consume.

Sounds about right because I feel like I have a death wish.

Padding softly back to the living room, she stopped at the foot of his pull-out bed, and waited of him to look at her. He didn't.

Losing her nerves, she gently kicked the mattress. He turned his eyes on her again, his normally warm brown irises were dull and cold.

"Are you mad about what I said at the airport?" Kaycee let out in a rush. Sean was about to respond, but she cut him off. "Because I'm really sorry if I embarrassed you or whatever. It was a joke, kind of, and I didn't mean it. I'm really sorry. Can we just let it go and move on?"

Sean's eyes warmed, slowly, melting into hers. In a panic, she realized he was trying to tell her something. But she didn't understand.

"Good night, Kaycee." He replied softly, turning back to his phone.

"Sean-"

She was cut off by his glare, his eyes back to being cold and cruel. With a huff, she shut the door behind her, and buried herself under the covers.

Kaycee spent the night tossing and turning, choking down the rising panic at the realization that she may have well and truly broken something inside of him. Something she couldn't take back. Something she couldn't fix.
