I woke up to the sound of my alarm ringing in my ear. I sighed and grabbed for my phone to stop the shrieking alarm clock. The sun was just starting to rise as I gained the strength to get out of bed. It was the first day of High School and I was not ready.
"Cyrus, breakfast is ready!" My mom called from downstairs.
"Ok! I'll be there in a minute," I answered groggily.
I walked into the bathroom to brush my teeth. I looked in the mirror at my messy hair and tired face.
"How is it possible that High School starts today?" I thought to myself.
The time on my clock read 7:10 and school started in 50 minutes. I made my way across my clean and neat room to pick out my outfit. I pulled out a blue, short sleeve, button down shirt and khaki shorts. I slipped on a pair of socks and my way to the kitchen where I found my mom placing pancakes on a plate with eggs and bacon.
"Hi Honey! Are you excited about High School?" My mom was too peppy this morning.
"Yes, mom," I replied.
"Here eat," she said while handing me the plate.
I sat down at the table and ate my breakfast. When I finished eating I went back to my room to fix my hair and put on my shoes.
"Cyrus you have to leave in a few minutes," my mom called from the kitchen.
I finished tying my black converse and picked my backpack up off the floor.
"Bye Mom! Love you!" I said as I went to open the door to leave.
Just as I was opening the door Buffy was about to knock.
"Hey, Buffy!"I laughed.
"Hey Cy," she said as she laughed too. We walked down the path leading to the sidewalk and made our way to school. When we got there we walked up the freshman table to get our schedules. As I walked up to the table I ran into a tall, blonde haired boy wearing a baby blue t-shirt and khaki shorts.
"Oh sorry," I said as I looked at him, "I'm Cyrus by the way."
"Watch where you're going Cyrus," He said.
"Hey!" Buffy began to protest.
"Buffy stop! It's fine," I said to her.
Once Buffy and I got our schedules we found Jonah and Andi standing by the flag pole looking over their schedules. We ran over to them curious about what classes we had together.
"Hey, guys!" We all yelled at the same time which made us laugh. We all held out our schedules to compare.
"Buffy, we have math first period together. And Cy we have English together period 7," Andi explained.
"Oh my gosh guys, we all have lunch together!"Buffy observed. We all smiled and looked at the rest of our classes.
All of a sudden the bell rang to get to class. I watched as the whole school filed through the few doors that lead into the school.
I leaned over to Buffy to ask her a question, "Who was the kid I ran into before?".
"Oh, that was TJ Kippen. He's from West End, he moved here over the summer. He's on the basketball team. The girls and boys teams both workout once a week together all year," she explained.
When I got to my homeroom I stood in the back of the room where the rest of the class was standing. I had world history first and I was assuming our teacher wanted to put us in assigned seats.
"Cyrus Goodman you will be sitting here," Mrs.Wilson explained. She pointed to the desk on the right side of the room in the second row, "And next to Cyrus will be Tyler-James Kippen."
TJ raised his hand as he walked over to the seat next to me and said to Mrs.Wilson, "You can call me TJ."
Great. I get to sit next to this jerk.
