Pain. It was the only thing he could remember. He'd been in constant pain for so long he has started treating it like an old friend. Every time he woke, it was there.

Now, it wasn't only his body hurting, but his heart. He had to choose who died: Wally and the Team, or Bruce and Barry. The team had so many more to die, but Bruce was his father, Barry his uncle. What was he supposed to do? The door slammed open, revealing the Joker with that cursed bat. "I'm here, Birdie! What's your choice?" Nightwing looked dead into his eyes. "Me. No... one... else." Joker looked confused. "That's not an option!"

Nightwing smirked. "Except I've already... contacted them. They know you're... after them. You aren't... getting them... anytime soon." That was a lie. Nightwing just hoped Joker didn't know that. He growled. "You idiot!" He slapped Nightwing's face, causing his head to jerk. "Now I'm really going to make your life hell!"

"I've been living... in hell for days, Joker. Unless you find... something completely new, I've experienced... everything. I'm immune to... fear gas, so that's gone. I've been through... every form of torture. I've been beaten... torn... starved... dehydrated... put back together... from scratch. You've got nothing that will... make me change my mind. I'll be the only... one dying today, Joker." Nightwing chuckled at the end, even though it hurt. Joker looked pissed. He stormed out of the room.

Nightwing noticed a small Bobby pin on the ground. Catwoman must have dropped it. He strained, but couldn't reach it. He hoped someone was close to him. He needed help.

As for Bruce and Barry, they were in a sticky situation. Bruce was knocked out, and Barry was only awake enough to assess the situation. Grodd had knocked out Bruce and Alfred. Barry was still dazed, so he couldn't move very fast. And Grodd still had the upper hand. Barry would have to wait before he could fight again.

Grodd walked around, occasionally prodding one of them with his hand. Once Barry could think straight, he grabbed the gorilla's hand and threw him. He flew across the room with a soft grunt. Barry stood up and ran to Bruce before he started shaking him.

He woke with a groan, rubbing his head. Grodd started to stand. "Bruce, I know you're not a speedster, but we have an angry gorilla on our hands. I kinda need you to move!" Barry shouted as he pulled Bruce out of the way of a very angry Grodd.

Bruce, who had somewhat recovered, landed on his knees. He and Barry, although Barry was faster, ran to the armory. Bruce grabbed two rebreathers, and a canister of tranquilizing gas. He handed one to Barry before putting his own on. Bruce too a drop breath before opening the can and throwing it out. A few moments later, they heard Grodd coughing, and a large object collapse.

They both looked out, and saw Grodd on the ground, sounds asleep. They quickly dragged him to one of the many cells in the cave, locking him in before going to Alfred. He was unconscious, but alive.

Barry carefully carried the elder man to one of the many gurneys sure in the med-bay while Bruce went to the computer to track his son. He was at an old, abandoned warehouse down on the southern side of Gotham. Bruce grabbed his Batman suit while Barry changed into his Flash suit. Bruce was carried by Barry to the warehouse, where they found a startled team. They explained they had found Dick by looking for his tracker.

Not long after, both teams, including Bruce and Barry, broke into the warehouse. There, they saw most of Gotham's villains inside, waiting for them. "Where Nightwing?" Batman demanded. Joker just laughed.

"We gave him a choice. Bats and Flash, or the team. He chose himself. I figured I would just let nature take him to his grave. However, he never chose, so we get to kill all of you." He pulled out a revolver. "Let the party begin."
