The Selection is a tradition that has been going on for hundreds of years. When the first born in the Royal Family, the Heir to the crown - typically a male - comes of age, there's a game put in play to find who will become their life companion. The person they will marry, love, and become the next Queen. Thirty-five girls of the thousands who put their name in for the Selection will actually get in and compete for the heart of the Prince. That, or the power he has; the crown.
The time has come for Prince Archie Andrews, whom just turned twenty years old. He's nervous he's going to let down his future Kingdom and his parents. What if he doesn't find the person he wants to be with? What if he walks away from the Selection still single? That would be humiliating for him and his parents. It would also mean he'd have to go through a second Selection.
Veronica Lodge just turned the age seventeen when she's gets a notice for Prince Archie's Selection. For girls ages sixteen through twenty. Her Mother, as well as her Father, are excited beyond belief. Of course they are, they're in the five's caste. They're poor and the money they would get by her just simply being there would help bring them up, not loose their home, stay healthy, etc. It would tremendously help them, whether she was one or not.
She's just doesn't want to even put her name in for the Selection. At all.

Some rules are like 'you may not sabotage or lay hands on another Selected girl' or 'you must be a virgin'. Things similar to that, which you in fact, have to strictly follow. They'd also become caste three when entered, unless they were already a three or a two. They'd stay that way. And if they won, they'd become a one. The highest you can be.
What will happen, though, if she's chosen and suddenly wants to win the heart of the prince? What if she's there because Fred Andrews, the King, only picked her name to add a 'definitive no' in Archie's choices? And what if... she doesn't end up being a no? At least... not at first.
