I stared at him, at his face, his smile, I longed for him just him. It wasn't meant to be. The rules restricted it, but at the moment I couldn't care less. Me and him that's what mattered. Just his sun-kissed face with those bright blue eyes. The type of eyes that you could get lost in, you could look at them for hours and still not discover every little detail. As I stared at him with the knowledge that someday we would be caught by the council, but until then I savor every moment I have with him.
As I walked down the well-known path that I've taken so many times to our spot. Something felt off somehow. I shrugged it off and kept walking. The more I kept walking the more uneasy I felt under the dappled light of the cloudy trees my wings hitting the branches and the leaves turning to wisps of swirling clouds as they disappear without a trace. I've never felt so uneasy walking to meet my love before, I'm always excited, but right now all my instincts are on edge.
As I round the final corner to our spot is when I see them. The Council of Angels. they were pacing and talking in hushed tones. I listened, my golden blond hair falling in front of my calculating gaze. Then I see him, my breath hitches. My love gagged and bound in shackles. I started silently crying my crystal tears from my hiding spot. Until I felt a presence behind me. As I slowly turned around and saw the council leader.
Then he looked at me he told me to stand up straight and meet him at the council room at noon and walked right past me to join the other council members. Then I started walking to my house to talk to my BFF Cassie.
When I got to her house she noticed my mood right away and asked me what happened. "Nothing much except that David and I got found out," I respond naturally.
She just laughs as she replies "Really, Wow I owe you 10 sunbuks. I had no idea that it would last that long, but we all knew it would happen eventually. When's your hearing?"
"Noon I'm just worried about what's is gonna happen to David more than me. Maybe I could say that it was all my fault and that I take the worst punishment. Or maybe we could run away. Or maybe we could get the same punishment." I ramble on. Cassie comes over to me and shakes me out of my fantasies.
" Avacyn you know the price for angels falling in love, it's not pretty and you know that they need to keep up the fear that they can do anything. When people disrespect their rules they need to show that there are consequences to your actions." She just confirms what I already know.
"Yeah I know I'm just hoping for the better." I say starting to stand up, "I just came here to say please don't forget me and to tell everyone that I love them and I'll miss them." I give her a big hug and start to walk out the door. As a crystal tear makes it's way down my cheek.
I get to the council building at 11:45 just to make sure that I'm not late. As I walk in the building instantly gets quiet and full of the whispers that I'm sure to have made their way around by now. I walk in how he said too, I take a deep breath and stand up straight and walk to the front desk to sign in.
After I signed I sat down, I could feel my heart pumping. It was getting fast along with my breathing. NO! I couldn't let people see me like this. I calmed down and started my bad habit of chewing on my hair. As my golden blond hair fell into view so did the receptionist calling my name. As I snap out of my daze I follow the lady into the back.
When I get into the room I see the council sitting in their crescent chairs. They stand up one by one in their signature colors, in the end, they create the rainbow with addition to black and white. I stand in front with my head high as I know the whole thing is broadcasted around the whole town for everyone to see. Gabriel stands up in his pastel green robe as he accuses me of my crimes. As I'm awaiting the punishment anxiously.
"Today we are all very shocked at the news that Angel Avacyn and Angel David have been secretly meeting up and are in love." *Cue dramatic gasp* "They have been meeting up for a little over a year, and as you all know rules are rules and we have them for a reason and they must be enforced." Gabriel continued. "The punishments for breaking the rules, especially being this extreme."
Then they bring out David and I break down."NOO WHAT DID YOU DO TO HIM! HOW COULD YOU, YOU ALL ARE MONSTERS." Then I feel the heat as I am struck, but right now as I see him, my silent crystals tears forming into a pool by my knee. I feel the anger build up inside me. This is all their fault because of their stupid rules, and angels are supposed to be gentle creatures, all they do is ruin everything they hurt people that I most care about. I start to talk to him."Hey, It's gonna be OK. I'm gonna take care of everything"
I stand up to Gabriel and turn to face him. I say in a challenging manner, bile rising in my throat "Gabriel, I don't care what happens to me as long as you swear on the River Styx that he is free and stays an angel use me as your stupid example, but he goes free with no more harm." My eyes are blazing as I look at Gabriel. Then I hear David groan a quiet NO from behind me, but I ignore him.
"Alright, I swear on the River Styx that David will be released and returned to his position in the Angel Hierarchy and will not be harmed from this point forward," Gabriel says calmly. "Release him." Then he looks at me and smiles "Now for Miss Avacyn you will be stripped of your wings and be sent to Earth to live through the struggles of having nothing and you are banned from ever seeing David again!" The smile of content laced his lips when my sentence was finished.
