It was already long past lights out by the time Lily, James, Albus, Junior, Scorpius, and Tom got out of the corridor. They had discussed at great lengths what they were planning on doing about those men. They all regretted it now, of course, because one-they had homework to do. And two-they'd have to part ways to get back to each other's dormitories. Splitting up meant two times the risk.
Luckily, James had snitched Harry's map of Hogwarts castle when he was younger, so that meant they had it now. James was lucky about it, though. All this time, Harry just assumed that he had lost it.
"Here, you guys take the map. There are more of you than us," James said, pushing the map into Lily's hands.
"No!" Lily whispered harshly. They were in a hallway not too far from either one of their dormitories.
"Trust me!" James whispered back, pulling a large cloak from his sweatshirt pocket. Lily recognized it as her fathers invisibility cloak. When you put it over yourself, you couldn't be seen. Someone could still run into you of course, but you were basically invisible otherwise.
"Junior and I will be more than fine with this!" James said, holding up the cloak.
Lily hesitated, but said "Fine. But please, do hurry! I don't want you to get caught!"
"Me?" James laughed. "It would be more tragic if you were spotted. You're the little angel."
Lily gave James a glare before the two groups headed off in separate directions. James and Junior to Gryffindor and Lily, Albus, Scorpius, and Tom to Slytherin house.
"I solemnly swear that I am up to no good," Lily tapped the map, using her wand as a light. The words and drawings revealed themselves almost instantly in front of her.
"Okay, so we're in this hallway. It looks as if we have to go down four more before we're safe in bed. Everybody ready?" Lily looked carefully at each of the three boys. Their faces were expressionless and they all nodded. So then Lily led them along.
Scorpius walked up beside Lily and read the map, their hands brushed against each other slightly. She felt something stir in her stomach, but she only shrugged it off as not eating enough at supper. Her dad's visit had distracted her.
"I see professor Manchester heading near here. He's coming really close. Where can we hide?" Scorpius said, looking quickly at all of us.
"I don't really know of any more secret passageways..." Lily said softly. She looked down at the map, growing more and more worried the closer that Manchester's feet came to their own.
"Come on, you guys! I think I remember seeing an empty classroom up ahead!" Tom said.
"What? Move closer towards Manchester? You'd have to be mental. He's the strictest teacher at Hogwarts. He'd get us expelled from here if he caught us out of bed!" Albus said.
"What choice do we have?" Lily asked, pushing Albus along, causing him to groan in protest. "Let's go!"
They sprinted as quietly and quickly as possible towards the empty classroom. Lily prayed that Tom did indeed remember seeing the room.
They passed two rooms, Tom begging them to go on.
Manchester was just a corner away from them, when Lily grabbed Scorpius and Albus by the back of their robes, and dragged them into the nearest room. She quickly shut and locked it just as they heard raised voices. Tom had run into Manchester.
The room they were in was dark, and as Lily looked around, she noticed it was thick with spider webs. The desks looked like they hadn't been used in centuries. She was surprised no one had cleaned them up. They could have at least used them as storage rooms. But nope. Just a fly cemetery.
