where the lonely make the lonely feel less lonely

"they're late."

see u never frowned as she glanced at the clock for the nth time in the past ten minutes. she leaned against a desk with her arms crossed against her chest, foot tapping to an unknown rhythm as she waited impatiently for her unsurprisingly tardy members.

"they're always late."

sitting on one of the chairs as she calmly flipped through a book, last piece let out a quiet giggle.

"hey, calm down," she said, smiling reassuringly. "why are you so nervous anyway?"

see u never paused for a moment to gather her thoughts before saying, "it's the first day."

last piece raised an eyebrow, confusion clear on her face.

"and what about the first day?"

"it's just... i wanna make sure the others have fun," see u never explained with a sigh. "i know a book club isn't all that exciting unless you're a silly lit major like me, so i want the other members to feel like they have a reason to stay, you know?"

"well, i'm a hundred percent certain they love it here," last piece said with so much confidence that it made see u never's mood brighten immediately. "don't worry so much. they have more than enough reason to stay."

before see u never could even open her mouth to ask her what she meant, both girls jumped in surprise as the door to room c1415 suddenly burst open and a multitude of hefty books landed on the floor loudly.

"well, shit," crush culture breathed out as she stared at the books in defeat. begrudgingly, she knelt down and picked them up one by one. it took a moment, but when she finally noticed last piece and see u never, she swore once more before smiling sheepishly. "oh, hey guys."

last piece and see u never gave each other a look before shaking their heads and laughing.

"didn't i tell you to ask for help when you need it?" last piece scolded ever so gently as she picked up a book.

"no one was there to help," crush culture explained with a pout. "well, no one, except—"

"already making a mess, freshie?" wednesday girl suddenly appeared by the door, a teasing smirk on her face. "how predictable."

crush culture sighed, heavier this time, before turning to wednesday girl with a scowl.

"thanks for the help, old hag," she said sarcastically.

"hey!" wednesday girl complained. "if i'm an old hag, then so are those two!"

"i'd rather not partake in this," see u never immediately said, her hands flying up in defense as last piece nodded her head in agreement.

"you upperclassmen are all old." crush culture shook her head.

before any of them could even feel offended, the door opened once more to reveal again, happily skipping into the room as she dragged two people with her. one was nosedeep into a book as she calmly let herself be dragged, while the other girl looked like she was being kidnapped (which was not too far from the truth).

"i've arrived!" again announced loudly, finally letting go off her two prisoners so she could do jazz hands. "and i've brought presents!"

perfectly wrong finally looked up from her book to smile lightly at the girls.

"nice to see you all again," she said, closing the book with one hand. "sorry i'm late. there was... an occurrence."

"occurrence my butt!" again scoffed. "she's late because she found another book to read. she wouldn't be here if i didn't drag her!"

"late to book club from reading a book, huh?" see u never teased, raising an eyebrow at perfectly wrong, who merely smiled apologetically in return. "anyway, who do we have here?"

they all turned to the terrified girl who seemed as though she was three seconds away from racing out the door.

"oh!" again exclaimed, slinging an arm around her shoulders. the scared girl tensed immediately. "she's our new member!"

"stop making her uncomfortable," crush culture said, prying again's arm from the girl. again pouted before immediately clinging onto crush culture instead. crush culture rolled her eyes but made no move to push her away. "sorry, she's a very touchy person."

"th-that's okay," the new girl said, smiling shyly before bowing her head. "my, uhm, my name is corduroy dream!" she looked up, eyes bright with hope. "am i... am i allowed to join you?"

the other girls all looked around at one another, meaningful stares and smiles passing from each member before see u never took a step forward, offering a hand to corduroy dream.

"of course you can," she said with a grin. "welcome to starship university's one and only book club!"
