(Set in the early 22nd century with some WW2 and Cold War era tech. Kinda 1000 year reich-ish dystopia)

He ran.

He ran and he didn't look back.

Oliver spun around for a split second and fired off a few shots at his pursuers. He managed to score a hit  and saw the Reich paratrooper smack face first into the road. His buddies didn't take too kindly to that and one of them grabbed an AG36 Grenade Launcher and launched a 40mm Frag in front of where Oliver was running.

The blast threw Oliver off the road and into a deep ditch that ran along the side of the road. He stayed huddled there until he saw the soldiers run past him. He let out the breath he had been holding for way too long and frantically made his way back to the barn he and his family were currently using as a hideout.

The war hadn't ended when the allies thought it would. What they had called the D-Day landings failed dramatically. They had not known about the Nazi technology which had surrounded them. The Nazi's had been able to field their Amerikabomber programs, turning most of America into a wasteland. Since then, most of the world had come under Nazi rule, and it has been like that ever since.

He slowly walked up to the chipped barn doors and knocked three times. The door opened and Oliver squeezed in. He saw that it was his father who had opened the door for him and he smiled. As he walked further he saw his mother and his brother, Maxwell. Maxwell was the first to comment on Oliver's choice of clothing.

"Well, if there was a competition for the best dressed soldier in the Reich, it would surely go to you!"

Oliver and his father laughed at his remark while his mother stood there, telling him off for his comment. Oliver looked around and saw that the Tiger they had absconded with was prepped and ready to go. He looked at his father and asked, "When are we leaving?"

"If you get your things together, midnight."

Oliver nodded and hurried over to his makeshift bed. He gathered his clothes and spare ammo into his duffel bag and went over to the Tiger to tie his bag down. He used to wonder why they had gone with the Tiger over all of the other, newer fighting vehicles but then he had found out the reason.

The Tiger in front of him was an experiment. It was powered by a prototype electric turbine engine, instead of a normal fuel turbine. What this meant was when it was moving, all you could hear was the snapping of branches and the squeaking of the gears. It was also self-charging, meaning when you drove, it charged up its batteries. It was the pinnacle of German engineering.

Oliver went to help his brother strap his things onto the side rails of the tank and then he lifted him onto the body so they could both enter through the top hatch. Maxwell hopped down into the co-driver's seat next to his mother. Oliver sat in the gunner's seat and moved the 88mm Kampfwagenkanone up and down to check if the gears needed oiling. He rarely needed to check it but it had turned into a habit every time he sat down.

He turned to his father and helped him load a HEAT-FS shell into the breach. Oliver hoped that they wouldn't need it, but things rarely ever went his way. His father gave the order to move out, the tank silently crept forward, and then pushed through the unlocked barn doors.

Oliver's father nudged him awake. He yawned and felt like something was about to go wrong. He looked at his father, they nodded to each other and then his father pointed at the scope. Oliver looked down the sight and right before his eyes was a burnt out Australian TRF-48 Heavy AFV. Before he was even thinking straight, he grabbed his rifle and exited the tank.

He crept over to the medium sized scout tank and walked around it. He heard breathing as he reached the far side and pulled his rifle to his shoulder. Peeking around the corner of the tank  he saw a man, around his age, propped up against the side of the tank. He looked like he had been through hell and Oliver could feel the man's anger as the man locked eyes with him. The man raised his pistol but Oliver took off his cap and jacket and said, "See? I'm not a Nazi."

"How can I be so sure?" The man coughed out.

"If I was a Nazi, I would have shot you. I'm Oliver."

"I'm Cody, tank loader of the 16th Tracked Recon Force."

Oliver nodded and rushed back to the Tiger to grab a medkit. He ran back to Cody, opened the medkit and injected Cody with the medical nano-tech. Cody groaned while the nanotech healed his wounds. Oliver helped him up and they both made their way back to the Tiger.

They both hopped in through the top hatch and Oliver introduced Cody to his family. His father, seeing the loader's patch on Cody's sleeve, got up and moved to the commander's seat, letting Cody take his spot. Cody got settled into his new seat and said, "Thank you, Oliver."

"For what? Saving you? It was the least we could do."

Cody smiled as they set off again. They mounted the hill and made their way to the next stop. On the way, Oliver and Cody were joking around when suddenly Oliver's father ordered silence. Oliver instinctively looked down the sight and saw a convoy of armoured cars and two Panther medium tanks.

The Tiger stopped and Oliver let off a shot that blew off the turret on the lead Panther. The convoy scattered and started firing their 28mm autocannons. The barrage only caused  superficial damage to the Tiger's paint. Oliver lined up his gun with the rearmost armoured car and fired.

The armored car exploded into atoms and then Oliver traversed the gun to face the remaining Panther. He fired and the shell went right through the transmission, the driver, and took out the engine. Oliver then shot the cannon barrel so that the Panther was effectively useless. The  Panther crew scurried over to huddle with the armoured car personnel, their arms held over their heads in surrender.

Oliver and his family had a quick conference to decide how they should deal with their captives. Oliver's mother rarely approved of wanton killing and urged them to disable the remaining vehicles,  disarm the men and leave as quickly as possible. Cody shook his head but reluctantly agreed that their priority was to find a new hideout and try to locate the nearest town's rebel group. They were in dire need of provisions.
